Old Town Cartegena Photo

Photographer’s Note

Coming from Bogota we had a 3-day stop at Cartegena, a beautiful old town at the carbiibean coast. You could compare this city a little bit with Havanna, it has a beautiful Spanish architecture and the typical colours. The Old Town is renovated, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and today a beautiful place to stay with some really lovely small hotels and with a lot of good restaurants and cafeterias.

The official name is Cartagena de Indias. The early Spanish explorers were searching for a more direct trading route to the spices of India and so their efforts were described as La Ruta de India. The Historic Cartagena was founded in 1533 by Don Pedro de Herediahas.

Hi Achim,

lovely colors of the houses and the car on foreground create a nice warming effect. You seem to have profited from the proper time of the day when you took this shot - lights and shadows look pretty decent. Your photo provides a nice outlook of the place you visited, somehow the single frame tells much more about the whole vicinity.

Hi, Achim. Evrything seems to be yellow and white in that town. The houses, but also the cars, with the yellow taxi and the white car. There is a nice perspective looking into the street wher the shadows are very long. Good light and colours.

comma la couluer jaune est ma couleurs préférée, j'aime beaucoup ton image, pas suelement bien sûr pour la couleur, mais pour l'ambiance la vue plongeante, des couleurs merveilleuse, superbe.

Hallo Achim,
da sind ein paar Kleinigkeiten, die nicht so ganz meinen Gefallen finden, wie die angeschnittenen Autos, die leichte Überbelichtung hinten auf den hellen Appartements. Und es ist ein ausgezeichneter Blick in herrlichem Licht, der das ganze wahnsinnig anziehend macht. Mein Auge freut sich darüber mehr als dass es sich am anderen stört.

Wonderful old Spanish style architecture seen in all its lovely intricate details. Beautiful contrasting yellow and white colors and excellent depth to this fine image. The late day light lays lovely shadows especially from the lone man on the motorbike.

Hi Achim,
A good POV onto the colonial town streets showing well this nice architecture. Light, color and sharpness are very good, i think the cars didnt help, but somtimes they stay forever!! Can't do anything about them!

An effective elevated point of view leads to a good impression of street architecture!

Achim, les couleurs de cette rue sont un élément fort de cette photo. On comprend que l'UNESCO ait inscrit cette ville au patrimoine mondial. Il faut absolument garder de telles architectures. Belle lumière.

Hallo Achim,
die bewundernswerte Architektur, die Intimität der schmalen Gasse, die üppige Bepflanzung der Häuser schaffen eine angenehme Stimmung, die auch vom Bild strahlt.
Schade, dass die überbelichteten Häuser hinten den Gesamteindruck stören (wahrscheinlich unvermeidlich, da ein anderer POV hätte die Tiefe der Gasse nicht wiedergeben können), sowie dass das Bild sichtbar (wie ich messe um 1,5 grad) nach rechts kippt.

Lovely colonial houses with nice contrast especially with the tiled roof. You got good light here resulting in nice shadows on the facade. Pity about the cars, but an excellent TE post with a lot of value.

I was going through your countries map (which is by itself a workout.:) to see some of the older photos.
Anyway, this is a great street scene, you`ve captured. Perfect lighting conditions too capture the light/shadows contrast, great sharpness and clarity. Beautifully done.
