La Candelaria Neighborhood

As a continuation of the previous picture:

Much of the political history of Bogota took place in the narrow streets and cobblestone neighborhood of La Candelaria. Today, still remain intact and thus constitutes the main Historic Center of Colombia.

Personality illustrious as Miguel Antonio Caro, Rafael Pombo, Antonio Nariño and Jose Asuncion Silva took his birthplace in Candelaria and important facts of the Colombian history took place in the streets of this town as the July 20, 1810

During the tour, the historic district of Candelaria, visitors can recreate touring the oldest streets of the city and surrounded by well-preserved architecture, filled with history, anecdotes and traditions, many of whom are still in force.

Other definitions:

Candelaria is the location number 17 of the Capital District of Bogota, capital of Colombia. It lies at the heart of the city east of Bogota.

The town of Candelaria Bogota is the heart of historic and cultural city.

Since its beginnings in the business of the city was moving downhill and north, colonial architecture could be maintained almost intact. The historic centre of Bogota is one of the best preserved in Latin America.

It has attracted artists, writers and intellectuals in general, who have filled the area of theatres, libraries and universities, in harmony with the great cultural reputation of Colombia in the Spanish-speaking world.

Visitors can see there the colonial houses with their windows trellis, carved gates, red tile roofs and eaves. The Mayor of Bogota Mayor carries out plans for renovation and preservation of properties and the cobbled streets, a feature most of the town.
