Photographer’s Note
Man On Horseback
-----------------
In many ways, Botero's sculptures make us realize that it is necessary to develop new schemes for consideration of art.
Almost always think about the artwork as realities of very special significance and meaning. In general, culture is identified by a person of respect, attention and care that manifests itself in front of such works.
The art seems like something very serious then, it becomes even more serious when he says that through his work, the artist offers us his vision of the world: it's almost as if we were seeing a kind of philosophy without words…
The men on horseback Fernando Botero is a sculpture that imposes on us its presence since its large dimensions.
We have no doubt that there must be an important work that we must look with much attention and respect. However, when we approach it, perhaps we face serious preparation is transformed into a wide smile because, in effect, the men on horseback is more like a toy to one of those complex structures of art across the which seeks to explain the world.
Possibly, from afar, most people assumed that efforts should be made to an image of a horse Pedrito, identical to the table perhaps best known artist. But although soon realize that it is not the image of a child but that of an adult, every detail confirms the playful and friendly spirit of the work.
The whole inflates like a rubber figure, but also as if the head and neck of the horse, as well as its tail, had been pushed inward, which would explain the rest of the animal and any figure of horseman have been inflated to such an extent. The jacket of the gentleman seems about to explode under the pressure of the trunk, while the other garments fit so precisely to the anatomy that seem painted more than dressed.
Moreover, unlike the determination and seriousness that always reflect the heroes in their equestrian monuments, the men on horseback are distracted and turns her head on the left shoulder. In fact, he is playing. Well it could be argued that art is a kind of game, but it goes without saying that the humor and play are very serious matters.
Particularly making original (in color) and exposed in the WS I did not like the exposure that is detailed in the rear. For this reason, I wanted to work in shades of gray, claiming more detail the shadows and contrast the upper facade of the Palace of Culture that can be seen in the background, allowing the observer to draw attention to the real expressions of art that are offered: sculpture and architecture.
I hope it is agreeable to all.
John

Hola John,

John,
Looks like it's made of chocolate - even the building behind has something "candyesque" about its construction!
Certainly an entertaining shot. Well realised. Good note.

Hola fiera.
Por aquí tenemos un par de esculturas de Botero y no están exentas de polémica la verdad. Eso si, el estilo es el mismo...y como me gustan las de aquí, esa también claro.

Hello John,
I had read the notes and quite agree with your point of view on this matter!
You had the best pov on the sculture with the beautiful architecture at the back of it! I also agreed with a format in B/W which really looks nice with the great details and sharpness of it!
many thanks for this wonderful sharing
sincere regards to my far distance friend from Colombia always

Hola John,

Hello John,
When seeing this statue, I immediately had to think about the peace dove I photographed in Singapore. Have a look here for that one.
Don't you agree that it could be the same sculptor?! :-) I looked on the internet, but I could not find whether it is actually the same sculptor. Interesting!!
Greetings!

Hello John,
Nice work on this shot with a very good B&W treatment. regarding the color version in WS, I think this B&W is much more attractive and readable.
I appreciate also the point of view from bottom to top which put in evidence the sculpture.
Perhaps the deep of field is a little too deep, a narrow DOF focused on the statue could have let it more in evidence. Whatever, as it is, it is already good.
I appreciated your note.
Yves.
