Lake Chungara which is one of the worlds highest lakes at an altitude of about 4500m is within the National Park Lauca, and is at the foot of two dormant Pallachata volcanoes. Within the park are many birds and animals including the Vicuna a wild relative of the domestic Chinchilla. The very fine wool of the Vicuna was the exclusive property of the Inca kings. Over the past 500 years the animal has been under seriuos hunting pressure and at one point its numbers were reduced from around 2 million to 10,000. But conservation programs as the one in this park have achieved a good recovery rate.
In this picture we can see llamas and alpacas grazing.

Hi Wanda,
Very good quality scanned image. Nice colors & sharpness. And thanks for the informative notes.

Best Regards,
Latiff.

Hi Wanda,
what a phantastic place. I already dream for some years to go to chilenean highlands. The pic has a good quality, only thing I could suggest to place the volcano not in the middle.
Cheers Chris

Hi Wanda,
I like this kind of landscape with a big space and nobody except animals: a fantastic place, indeed!

Hi Wanda,
Very interesting place, the llamas grazing look beautiful. The snow capped mountain in the BG is also great.
Well done,
Shaeri

Hi Wanda, beautiful view of lovely lake, great composition with llamas, good light and colors, very well done, have a nice Sunday, ciao Silvio

I like the overall dark tone here, Wanda--it fits well with the somewhat stormy sky, and it makes the colors very rich. Nice arrangement of the animals in the frame, forming a sort of wedge that points toward the mountain. It's pretty sharp for a scan, too. You might want to put the volcano more off-center, but the composition overall works well. Good work since there's barely enough oxygen up there to get the brain to operate a camera! Regards, Ken.

wonderful pov compo colours and sharpness. a very tranquil scene, refreshens the mind

hi Wanda
good POV, depth, the white sky is not really helping, but still a nice composition

A very good informative note

Dag Wanda
An amazing place. It's a pleasure to the world through your eyes Wanda. The scan quality is excellent. The llamas & alpacas make a very good FG interest. The snow capped peak beyond the lake makes this a beauty uncomparable. If only you got blue skies!...but then that's only wishful thinking as a tourist. A great shot!
With Regards
Angshu

Hi Wanda,
Beautiful bucolic view. The sense of vastness and and peace is immense. Hard to believe that is so high, as it is so flat )I know it is plateau). Very accomplished compo, amazingly achieved scan, that preserved so well the colours and sharpness.
TFS, Regards, José.

This lake should be the same one I have in this picture some months earlier than yours. As I wrote in the text to my picture, I found this placce on two maps and should be the one I state. Is this the same place? At those days I saw no animals while I was travelling, but there were other people, like me, crossing the frontier, and taking pictures of the lake and the mountain.
Your picture also shows the ichu, when green. As I travelled in July/August 2000 it was yellow and dry everywhere.
Any PP done to your picture?
Regards,
Jürgen
