The Place
This is a close view of the Glacier Gray at the Torres del Paine National Park. This picture is taken from the boat that takes you by the lake of the same name.

Background
As mentioned in my previous photo of this place, I took my wife to my home country, Chile, for honeymoon. Most couples would spend their honeymoon in a relaxing and warm location. But, in our case, I took my wife the end of the world. We were just arriving at the National Park from the long trip from Puerto Natales, and since we were on a tour (not recommendable, better travel by yourself), we had to have lunch upon arrival to our hotel that afternoon. Just at the same time the last boat to the Lake and Glacier Gray was about to leave. It was either a good lunch in a nice hotel or visit the glacier (next day we would have other activities). My wife is very adventurous and there was no need to convince her to skip lunch and go for the boat. It was a good call, we would have regretted not seeing this wonderful place.

Hi Jorge,
What a fantastic place. But it is so far awy from where i live, but one day i will go there. The whole surrounding looks unreal and the only thing i miss is a boat in front to give some scling to the scenery. I think the Glaciers is huge, even more then people who have not been there can imagine.
Good scanning job here, nothing to pick on...
Regards, Henk

An amazing landscape ! looks like it came from another planet ! I wish I could go there once

Regards from switzerland

Jorge,
Wow, amazing FG with these graphics in the ice.
So beautiful, it works perectly, and I like too the cyan tint the ice has.
Very good POV... Great image !
Regards,
JB.

Hola Jorge,

Saludos,
Carlos

A very nice scan - the image resonates with the colour of the ice - I don't know what to say really - it is just one of those images that puts you right there in the scene - in a place that one dreams of going to.

All the best for the New Year Jorge!

bw Kev

p.s. good choice of film

Hola Jorge,
You have captured a beautiful blue color on the glacier and the light also seems to have been very appropriate to make the different shapes stand out. Great quality scan and a very humourous note too... I would have made the same choice as you! ;o)
Regards,
Brigitte

What amazing place, especially for honeymoon!
The colors are natural but the color of the ice steals the show!

I wish you a happy new year,
Athanasios.

Hello Jorge,

Very striking color contrast and texture in this view, Jorge. You have captured the scene very well with good composition and pov. Well done. TFS

Hello Jorge -

How big is this glacier - it looks massive but a boat or something to give scale would be nice. I do like the back lighting of the ice - that aqua/blue is rather unearthly. Nice scanning job, a touch of noise but that is to be expected. Well done.

Thank you for sharing.

Hello Jorge,
Your fabulous photo is a reminder to us all that it is not the technology or the equipment, but the photographer who creates the image. It doesn't matter when, what film or camera was used, but the vision and the creativity of the artist that matters. This is a gorgous as well as a visually fascinating image! Outstanding!

This really captures the scene and puts you right into it. I think it is very well composed and the colors convey all of the chilling atmosphere Lago Grey and the Grey glacier have to offer.

Hi, great landscape! Beautiful composition including the glacier, the water and the mountain. Regards, Yvonne

Hi,
Fantastic shot; very nice pov. The ice in the foreground seems to be floating from the mountain in the background. Your framework adds beauty in image. TFS.

Hello Jorge,

This is absolutely fantastic! I've never seen a real glacier in my life! I especially like the blueish color of the ice in the foreground! It must be very tall but I can't tell for sure as there is nothing to compare it to. You exposed the scene very good. Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year!

Bruno,
... ... ... what can I say?! WOW? is not enough to express the feelings looking at this shot. But, I can tell you that my desire to go to Chile is growing by the minute. I lived for 25 years in Brazil and never bothered to go to Argentina nor Chile. Now that I live far away the desire is there. Still, I go every two years to Brazil and next time is 2009. I was talking to my wife about doing the pit stop in Brazil and than head to Chile to meet this natural wonders and chilenean TE members like you!
Feliz Ano Novo!

Wonderful nature and great image, colors of ice are really beautiful and the view amazing, well done Jorge, compliments.

Bonjour Jorge,
Regards and happy new year.
Daniel.

Hello Jorge.
Fantastic shot, fantastic viewpoint. I appreciate the shallow layer of water at the bottom, but am wondering how high the glacier wall is where it meets the lake. They look enormous, those spikes of ice. Your shot is superbly exposed and composed, and an excellent scan. Well done.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Jorge,
just so beautiful...you did well to choose this with your wife:-)
I love the textures, somehow so soft, the blue tone in contrast to the whiter background, the composition makes us feel like we are very close too...I like that bit of water on the bottom, the quality of the scan is excellent in my view...well done !

All the best for this new year !
Warm regards
Michèle

Hi Jorge,

very beautiful place, good pov and nice colors, it seems there's a little lack of sharpness, probably due to the scan.

Hey Jorge,

A beautiful shot of this glacier. I never mind seeing more photos of glaciers and the magnificent blues that emanate from them. I also like the backdrop with the dramatic peak.

Regards,
David

Hi Jorge,

what a landscape -and what a shot!-...

Your compo is perfectly balanced between sea, ice, mountain and sky. Congrats, Jorge!

Cheers,

Loïc

Hi Jorge:

Ridiculously beautiful, that's all I can say. Makes me want to go back to Chile, and this park is number one on my list of places to go. I really like the closeup, as it gives a better sense of the size. Most of the time people post more panoramic shots of Lago Gray and its glacier, which are nice but don't give a sense of the size. Seeing the glacier next to those much, much smaller (but still huge) icebergs really gives a sense of proportion. The lighting really helps too--coming from the side it highlights the ridges in the glacier. Just fabulous.

Clark

Hello Jorge!
Incredible place and wonderful colours and light!
Good point of view and nice frame!
Best regards!

Awesome angle, I've nver seen this glacier from this perspective, last october when I saw it for the second time the winds were so brutal the most powerful boat would have capsized.

Great photo of the glacier but I do wonder if the blue grey water is needed as its a bit thin, I might remove the water and just keep the glacier and mountain. A great shot and POV with extremely good composition asides the water
I see God makes film too

Hola Jorge,

Yo he escalado sobre glaciares pero nunca he estado en uno parecido a este. Me gusta mucho la forma que toma y las montanas que tiene como fondo. Parece un lugar impresionante con riesgos y retos. Bonitos colores y buena composicion. Ojala algun dia pueda verlo con mis propios ojos. Gracias amigo.

Roberto

A stunning shot Jorge! Your low POV work really well with this amazing foreground. Exposure throughout is very well managed. Excellent work..

Hi Jorge - A beautiful, fantastic land indeed... fascinating color and light of the glacier.. I do remember that spectacular boat trip, but got no photos, so thank you for sharing this one... rgds, Daniel

what a gorgeous perspective for this very nice shot. The blueish glacier is beautiful and impressive at the same time. I plan to visit your country at the beginning of the next year and will take in mind this attractive place. Well done! Tfs and best wishes.

Hi Jorge

why this, it happened to be on the opening site and I like so much the low POV you could had over the water on the gletsjers to make it really impressive, the blue gloom makes it even more stand out to catch all the attention towards the mountain in the back under a good textured cloudy sky.

Hi Jorge,

I heard about a lot of couples who make their honeymoon trip to Niagara Falls, Hawaii or Tuscany, but going down in Patagonia is certainly a choice out of the beaten paths... I understand that it's your home country, but still, this is certainly a much memorable trip! It's also probably one of the reasons you can spend a lot of time on TE without getting a divorce!... :-P)

These blue glaciers are quite amazing to look at. It's hard to get a sense of proportion, but after consulting your theme, I can see that we're talking gigantic size. It's very impressive to catch such a unique ice formation in front of this powerful mountain, which create a terrific combination.

Cheers!

André

Colours of the glaciers will always impress me. I think the only think missing in this incredible picture is an element of reference (a person, a boat, a penguin!) that could give a reference as to how big this really is.

Nice shot! Hope to go there someday!

A very impressive photograph, Jorge, that captures well the wild and rugged beauty of Patagonia. It's hard to appreciate the size and grandeur of glaciers from pictures like this, but the mountain peak in the background helps to provide some scale. Cheers . . . David
