Photographer’s Note

When visiting the Atacama desert in Chile's northern region a traditional tourist activity is to watch the sunset from one of the high dunes. The Andes turn a wonderful shade of red in the last rays of the sun. On this day we we fortunate enough to witness the rise of a full moon as it appeared from behind the volcano. The strip of green in the bottom right is San Pedro de Atacama, the "hub" of desert excursions - and human survival. The picture isn't the sharpest or the greatest: bear in mind I was using manual focus in poor light with a flimsy tripod in strong wind (typical as the sun goes down in the desert).
