Photographer's Note
I have presented already here the view of Hosteria Pehoe, which was my accommodation while exploring the Torres del Paine National Park. The hotel is located on a tiny island on the lake. This photograph here presents another view of the famous Cuernos del Paine mountain range from same island, this time without any traces of civilization. I was at this particular location with my camera for one sunset and two sunrises but the light was not that great, the main theme being covered in a deep shade. Later in the morning, as seen here, the light was in my opinion the most interesting.
I have struggled a lot to avoid burning out the bright snow on the mountains. It was only possible with the ND grad filter and without the polarization filter (the second one usually enhances contrasts). Sadly in the end the photos with the best exposition appeared to have a bit less interesting foreground. To show the colors as natural as possible this photo was not hdr-ed or processed in any other way. To read more about the origin of the green color please check the note under this photo.
This is my note for the photo presenting Hosteria Pehoe:
Our accommodation for the 3 nights which we have spent in Torres del Paine National Park was Hosteria Pehoe. The hotel is located on a tiny island in the middle of Lago Pehoe. To get to the island you have to cross a wooden, 100 m long, pedestrian bridge. Hosteria provides probably the best view of Cuernos del Paine (Horns of Paine) both from its rooms and from the restaurant. You can easily walk around this 5 hectare island finding also a more natural foreground for your compositions. It is so convenient to wake up for a sunrise or wait for a sunset, or watch the Southern Cross constellation at night (invisible for people in the Northern Hemisphere) having the best POV just one minute away from your bed. In this photo I wanted to show you the hosteria in the context of the view it provides. The color of the lake changes during the day, but in a full sunlight it is light green. Hosteria Pehoe is also a great base to explore the rest of the National Park as it is located in the middle of the park. All the roads in this area are called ripio, meaning they are not paved, so you don’t want to drive too much, especially that the closest gas station is far away and you really have to save the fuel for the way back. The closest station on the Argentinean side is in Esperanza, 160 km away from Torres del Paine. Having accommodation and good restaurant with such a view has unfortunately its price. We have paid for a night there 3 times more than for a good hotel in Buenos Aires. The restaurant was very expensive too as there was practically no competition in that area.

I thought your photos from Chile were finished!
But I can see that you have a good reserve of them!
I like the open spacious view with this lovely lake which makes an appetizer for the distant Torres del Paine. With such a lovely light and clarity we can appreciate fully all the beauty of this enchanted spot.
Everything is so clearly defined that one think it's possible to touch the water!
Very fine Mariusz, in this genre you are a master.

Hi Mariusz
its interesting reading your note about how to correctly expose the brighter areas. Yes, the ND filter is a great tool, but have you ever thought about entering the realm of HDR? as i think you know from my FB page, i'm now really loving the HDR.
By capturing the 3 photos, one correctly exposed, one over, and one under exposed, then the software blends them together - it will correctly give you that real life look. its at least worthy looking into.
in this shot, the middle ground is the best! love that green aqua water - its stunning.
and as for the upwards bg, its very sharp and detailed, impressive to say the least.
bravo on this one my friend!
cheers

Cześć Mariusz,
Fantastyczny widok, i ten kolor jeziora cudowny. Myśmy się zatrzymali tez w niezłym miejscu, może nawet lepszym, bo tez nad samym jeziorem, i blisko Doliny Francuskiej, a więc blisko Rogów. Paine Grande Mountain Lodge. No i był z pewnością tańszy. Od osoby 39 USD za nocleg.
Fajne ceny sa w Explora:
Explora Hotel Salto Chico
While Explora's views of the Paine Massif are not that different from Pehoe's, it does also have a view of Salto Chico Waterfall. Inside, it's all natural materials, soft colors and panoramic picture windows. The hotel also has an open-air hot tub, a swimming pool and an excellent restaurant to come back to after fully inclusive day-trips into the wilderness. Riding, boat, hiking trips are some of the activities.
Rates (for minimum four-night stay including excursions)
The steep rates at Explora’s Hotel Salto Chico (www.explora.com; four nights: $1,560 to $2,688 per person, double occupancy) include exquisite meals paired with fine wines, plus excursions led by bilingual guides.
Pozdrawiam M.

Hi M,
Ah, back to our favorite place, What a gorgous view, everytime I see this, it still take my breath away and makes me wish to go back there, even if I hated the cold. The turquoise water is as rich as I remember it. and once again you have the best weather we all wish for when in Patagonia, since it can have miserabel rain and wind and cloud that never leave the mountain. Geat view, great shot, great quality. Just simply wonderful

Hi Mariusz
I see that the weather must be pretty bad to have you trawling through your archives. But if I had this high-quality image in my archives I'd be very proud. Amazing how the colours of these glacial lakes change, depending on the sky. The peaks are so rugged and your DOF so good I can see every detail in the mountains. I like the large foreground of black rock as it gives an extra element of interest for our eyes to feast on. Superb shot, not mush I can say to critique it.
Thanks and have a lovely day

Hello Mariusz,
I'm happy that you didn't make an hdr picture.
Okay, you have some shadow on the forground,
but for the rest the picture is natural and
when you wath a couple of miniutes it's also
nice calmness as the first seconds. Ofcourse
you have exceptions and I respect everyone's
taste.
Surrounding is beautiful, Composition is
excellent and the light management is great.
The layers in the picture creates a lots
of depth and it makes also the picture nice
calmness (the open spaces).
Friendly regards,
Robert
