[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
La Mano del Deserto (Please forgive my shocking spanish) a.k.a Hand of the Desert. Located in the desert of Northern Chile (Atacama desert, which incidently is the driest on earth). Built by a Chilean artist I believe. I originally didn't know his name but thanks to Emer for letting me know...it's Mario Irrarrazaval.

Really is in the middle of nothing but desert which should mean it was very calm and peaceful... I got one shot of this before a tour bus turned up and people crowded around and the moment was lost.

Colours are fairly natural,some saturation. I kept the background quite soft, and (tried to) emphasise the hand. I'm still struggling with appropriate sharpening (in fact all technical stuff), so welcome advice.

If it weren't for the base, I would have imagined it was a colossal statue of a person or a god with a hand raised up high, and years of dust covered it until only half the palm was left exposed.

I did a search, the artist was Mario Irrarrazaval.

THANKS FOR GIVING ME THE INFORMATION THAT IT WAS BUILT BY AN ARTIST BECAUSE FOR A SECOND,BEFORE READING YOUR NOTE I THOUGHT IT WAS NATURAL(IN OTHER WORDS, ONE CAN ASSUME IT TO BE A GIANT'S HAND).WELL, NOW THAT I KNOW,LET ME TELL YOU(if you dont mind)THAT THE SHARPENING YOU DID HAD A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE BACKGROUND ALTHOUGH THE HAND DID GET SOME EMPHASIS FROM YOUR SIDE.GOOD PHOTO THOUGH AS THE HAND CAN EASILY GRAB A VIEWER'S ATTENTION.

Hello. This is a funny photo. Nice prespective. Someone is killing giants in the desert... Well done. :=)

Don't sharpen your pictures (very bad photo tool). It looks like you cut and pasted the hand onto a picture of the desert.
