Photographer’s Note
since today in New York City again is one of those ugly and gray days, I decided to post this corner of golden late afternoon light in Lauca National Park. we had just climbed a fairly steep sand dune (altitude is still 4500m, mind you), and for a moment all we could do was gasp for breath, both figuratively and literally - afternoon light was slowly pouring into a valley of Lago Chungara, and the overcast sky added that special luminousity that I find the best reward when hunting for landsape photos.

Hello Kristine,
What a lightning on your photo!
Thanks to the lake reflecting the deep colors of the sky, there is a rythm in the lightning of the ground with stripes. This effect is increased by the shadows on the clouds in the background mountains.
The pink flamingo are providing the small details doing the difference.
Chile and Bolivia are really places worth to be visited.

Hello Kristine! The clouds are wonderful and how they move over this high terrain leaving their shades on the landscape and yes many times or even most of the time they make the difference but you cannot always choose :))) Lovely the birds and how they stand there in the water adding an interesting element to this photo. Not as grey as in NYC here but I can see some alarming clouds approaching fast and the weather forecast for Saturday is a black cloud symbol with huge drops falling out meaning rain-snow :))) I have a photo meeting with someone on Saturday so we see what is behind "there is always good weather for photos" ... LOL. No one from TE (yet) but he does good stuff ... Barbara.

Hi, Kristine -
I remember Lake Chungara - our group (for the '94 eclipse) was hauled up there from Arica, which is at sea level, all at once in about 4 hours, and a number of us, including me, had to have oxygen! Beautiful lake, though.
And yes, the light here is something special, and well captured, especially on the mountains behind the lake. You want to watch that polarizer, though; you can see its effect too clearly in the bits of sky between the clouds.
Best,
Dan

Hi Kristine,
It's a pity that the pictures on TE are so small. This one you must see BIG!
Wonderful colors, a well-balanced composition and good sharpness.
Very well done.

Dear Kristine,
Another deep saturated image with high contrast. You learned fast how to pull the sliders to make an image pop out of the screen. My very bright Eizo screen loves these images and it really looks great viewing this. Colour range is very good, but also your composition with these great clouds on top works excellent......wonderful photo.

Henk

Kristine, the colors are deep, rich, contrasty and well saturated. Sometimes, when people tweak the curves too much, it gives uneven results and a decrease in the quality of the picture. But here, it seems very well balanced!
The place is absolutely stunning and the light hitting the mountain is beautiful!
sweet sweet picture!!

Kristine,
Beautiful landscape, but what make it more special is the magical light that illuminated the whole scenery. Beautiful lake with a few pink flamingoes to spicy up the smooth surface, and beautiufl reflection of the mt and sky with beautiful white puffy clouds, and I like the gradiatio of the blue form light to deep dark blue. Really great shot. Thanks Kristine.

Hello Kristin,
Another wonderful image of the north of Chile (I havent been to this region yet, only up to San Pedro).
I have teh same comment of Wondering Dan, and I suffer sometimes the same... CP with wide angle (less than 20mm) usually create some problems with blue skies.
good work!
have a nice weekend

Hi, Kristine.
The title says it all. One of your trademark striking shots, bathing in exceptional light. As for the polarizer : at this kind of elevation you got very little choice : you either use it or you don't. And if you use it, it will enrich the colors and darken the skies way above average, that's the score and something we've all got to accept. Great effort! Have a good day, I'll be seeing you.
Fulvio.

Are those flamengos in the background?

Kristine, great color and crispness as usual, and the composition looks to be some unreal place because of the clearness of the air. Is this a tripod shot or otherwise stabilized (other than the VR)? It surely is crisp of focus. Great capture.

Good morning Kristine
What a stunning view! A very dramatic sky, well worked with the gradient effect that added depth, sharp details and bright colors. The side afternoon light has really added those nice warm touches to it and the reflection is just perfect. The birds (?) on the surface are a nice addition. Funny thing there are so many things to talk about only in one composition
Have a lovely weekend and tFS

Kristine my friend
She creates with colours..she creates with the light..she climbs a fairly steep sand dune and creates..:))
Perfectly managed light..seems exposure is just right to bring out a well balanced saturation of colours..think it gives the right depth the compo demands..like the layers and the sharpness..deepens the compo..well presented..i like it :)

Excellent sense of space thanks to your point of vue, the amazing clouds and lights. The reflection makes it all the more tranquille. I would have just erased the pointed white rock in the foreground which distracts a bit.

Excellent light management, Kristine. That cerulean blue just above the horizon line immediately gives the image a touch of the surreal. Having passed through New York on the way to Providence (about the same time as you posted this photo), I remember the rather dank, dingy and depressing light. Yesterday morning (March 31) while I was in New Haven, however, the light was superb. I'll post a couple of shots from Yale, where I was visiting to give a guest lecture. So in New York it must have been equally bright and cheery.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Kristine,
What an amazing sky you have here with these special clouds mixed with thise unique shade of blue which is all beautifully flattered by the yellow and golden tones of the foreground and distant hills.
The birds add effective scale to this beautiful landscape.

Hi Kristine:
Fabulous light here. Every photographer's dream, and then you throw in those clouds, beautiful blue sky, the reflection, and to top it off the birds on the lake (lovely little detail there)--you're making us all very jealous. :) Great job, I really like this one. The only thing I'd change--the clouds seem a little dark at the top of the frame--did you use a grad?

Hello Kristine:
I am pleased that once again you refuge land South America. The Andean landscapes, no cease to be charming and almost always enjoy your photos.
This landscape, quiet, radiates feelings of grandeur. Great natural composition, beautiful colors, balance in the environment, everything you need to illustrate a travel magazine or catalog.

Bonjour,

Hello Kristine
This is quite special! Amazing light and luminosity as you yourself stated. But one has to give top marks for your composition as well with the reclining V of the water, opening out to the right. Like the shaodow of the clouds on the mountain & of course the flamingoes...wonderful!!
