I have already presented here a view of Torres del Paine mountain range from which the whole national park takes its name. The neighbouring mountain range is called Cuernos del Paine (in this photo). It is easily visible from numerous viewpoints across the national park. You can guess where the name comes from. As torres is the Spanish word for towers, cuernos are horns.
To reach this particular viewpoint (Mirador Cuernos) we left the car at the Salto Grande Waterfall trailhead and we followed a marked 1 hour trail. The walk was truly enjoyable. We have seen plenty of beautiful unknown plants and stopped at numerous picturesque viewpoints. The only problem was the terribly strong wind which, I assume, is frequently present there as there was a sign posted: zona de fuertes vientos (= area of strong winds).
Torres del Paine National Park (Parque Nacional Torres del Paine) is a national park encompassing mountains, a glacier, a lake, and river-rich areas in southern Chilean Patagonia. The Cordillera del Paine is the centerpiece of the park. It lies in a transition area between the Magellanic subpolar forests and the Patagonian Steppes. The park is located 112 km (70 mi) north of Puerto Natales and 312 km (194 mi) north of Punta Arenas. Bernardo O'Higgins National Park is its neighbour to the west, while Los Glaciares National Park is located to the north in Argentine territory.

the place surely is worth more than a picture this must have been the case that every step of the road i imagine you had different view. At home you had so many beautiful shot that it must have been not easy to choose the picture to post.
apart from the striking natural beauties of the site i like the light over the mountains and the sky.
pauloog (11751) 2010-12-11 3:23
Beautiful light to iulluminate this fantastic scene brought with great depth and detail.
PaulVDV (29809) 2010-12-11 3:42
Wow, I'd say a perfect picture. The composition is very good with the different layers. Beautiful foreground with the branches of the dead tree on the small black pebble beach. Between this FG and the green coastline we find the blue water and on the background the impressive sharp peaks of the famous mountain range. The sky looks splendid and it seems that the clouds point into the direction of the peaks.
Excellent sharpness and colours.
Best regards, Paul
asajernigan (21427) 2010-12-11 4:48
This is a great shot taken from a fine POV. The inclusion of the driftwood in the foreground adds depth and interest for the shot. The low POV gives the mountains a more dominant appearance while allowing us to see that dramatic sky. The lighting and colors are great as is the photo's sharpness.
faletiz (10377) 2010-12-11 5:50
an outstanding image! You found everything you could want when you took this picture: the towering mountains, beautiful skies, azure waters and a beautiful twisted tree trunk. Wonderful composition and perfect technical implementation. Congratulations, well done!

Dobry vecer Mariusz,
fantastique photo with great colours, excellent point of view and clouds that photographers dream of ... most probably created by the strong winds.
Simply beautiful, TFS.

What a wonderful treat this one is! A very splendid landscape. And I was quick to note that you were blessed with great weather that day, giving you that amazing sky! Gorgeous composition. Warm regards,
hispic (9652) 2010-12-12 19:28
Amazing landscape with extreme sharpness and superb definition! but distant mountains seems losing a three-dimensional feel a little bit somehow. it seems that bright area in the bottom of the image distracts the eye from the main object.
Characteristic clouds in Patagonia make Torres stand out further. Beautiful work!
Best wishes, Hisashi

Le grand angle a fait merveille pour mettre ce paysage fabuleux en valeur. J'aime ce premier plan qui donne de la profondeur et crée une perspective pour guider le regard sur ces "tours" naturelles et sur ce ciel merveilleux.
danos (99816) 2010-12-13 0:47

A spectacular photo. A great framing with the dead tree and the lake in foreground, and the most beautiful mountains and the sky magnificently decorated with a few clouds as a painting in background.
The set of the image has a great aesthetic power, and the treatment in HDR adds a strong dramatic effect to the sky, in a perfect exposure.
A gorgeous work, my friend.

thank you for your excellent shot,
Waylim (25502) 2010-12-13 19:18
Once again, a great shot, not only that you have such good clarity, I was on way, and I remember this is exactly where I turned around because of the rain start to come down. I like the POV from here, and the inclusion of the fallen tree adds a nice element and give depth to the overall composition. I wanted to come back here on my last day when the weather was nice, but my driver couldn't take us because we were late to go to puenta Arena and he has to go back to Argentina.
Congratulation on the good weather and the photo quality is also fantastic.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. This picture is impressive: the colours, that dead tree on the right hand side.
PJE (20758) 2010-12-14 21:20
Hello Mariusz. I find it interesting being from Canada and being accustomed to the shape of the mountain ranges from where I live. When I look at the shape of these peaks from this National Park they appear to have their own character and shape. And I would say your choice to present them with the twisted driftwood was an excellent composition idea. The water looks cold...nice capture.

Urs (14082) 2010-12-15 0:38
That's a spectacular shot with the tree branches in the FG and the stripes of clouds leading the viewer to the snow topped mountain range. At the same time it looks like a very lonely place, not many people must be visiting, so you really can say that you can become one with nature. Well done
s_lush (16410) 2010-12-15 22:05
This is an absolutely fantastic and extremely beautiful view indeed. The intricate lines of the dead trees in the foreground are in full harmony with the quaint forms of the mountains in the background. In addition, the sky, light, colors and photographic qualities are highly excellent here. A simply brilliant job!
jlbrthnn (76037) 2010-12-16 12:33

The colours are natural & rich & the quality of the picture just fantastic! An excellent work my friend!...and a lesson for me of landscape photography. Taking this into my favs so that I can see this picture later & study it as well!
