Photographer’s Note
volcan Parinacota obviously getting grumpier and grumpier from all the uninvited tourist (our) attention...
the bright spots: it's the sun shining through small openings in the clouds (like the one you see on the left): it seemed surreal, almost as if stage lime-light was highlighting spots of interest for us.
compositionally, i'm not so sure about this one; i feel that maybe there is too much of the 'bright' grass in the foreground and not enough of the grumpy veil in the sky. you be the judge.

what strikes me most is how close the clouds feel, just inches above your head. I don't see any problem with the foreground, I think the proportions with the layers are just right, and the light pouring from the break in the clouds add a dramatic touch. yes, "dramatic" is how this feels.

Hi Kristaps,
I disagree with you => compositionally speaking I think it's brilliant! There are several horizontal layers, very distinct, with complementary colors and high light contrast. Maybe the light is too harsh on the white cloud which small part is burnt. but that's clearly ok!
Lovely place
Cheers,
Pris.

similar to your cookie shot but i like this one better somehow kris... i think it is compositionaly okay with the "1 bright grass - 1 lake - 1 sky" proportions, bright grass being the best part of it :)... cheers buddy... K.

Hi, Kristaps.
Maybe something in the back of your mind "wants" you to think the proportions should be different, but I shouldn't pay any attention to it. IMNAAHO, the balance is perfect as it is. Masterful lighting, surreal environment, no llamas to spoil your picture (LOL!), it all looks like those Andean high plains are supposed to look. Love it! Have a good day, see ya later.

Kristaps, I like it, especially the water ways illuminated in the mid ground. I think compositionally it is strong with the hard horizontal likens leading to the vertically split top section. The clouds worked some magic for you in this one.

Kristaps,
you're nuts! The distribution of light and shadows is just PERFECT! Anyone of us would die to get some interesting distribution of light and shadows to enhance the landscape and you start getting grumpy about it. The image is so perfect in its lines that it gives the impression that you didn't use the camera but a brush and water colors.
Hmmm, I see that you got some good glass in front of your lens. Don't you think that this makes all the difference or do you still live in the illusion of some green hues ... ;-)

Kristaps -
It's a good composition as it is, but I see why you might be uneasy about it - the bright foreground dominates, but does not contain as interesting material as the background. I tried several different crops, and came up with one that might help; see the WS.

A pity that the dark cloud of the water colors are beautiful divine. At the same time the great cloud of drama permeates the image and strength. Excellent perspective and wonderful place.

Bonsoir,
belle photo de cette étendue d' eau surmontée par cette étendue de nuages, et entre les deux ce volcan impressionnant qui a son sommet dans ces nuages.
Jolies couleurs de l' ensemble, bonne restitution qui frappe l' oeil.

Hi Kristaps,
That desolated landscape is absolutely fantastic and even more with that spectacular ethereal light and sky that you used so wisely. The low POV accentuates much the sense of depth, to the point that we feel like the clouds are about to squash everything below. Those clouds seem to be commanded or fighting the volcano. The game of light and shadows is amazing. I like specially how the lake is under the shadow, while the 1st and 3rd plans are sunned.
A masterpiece! Congratulations!
Regards, José.

Hey Kristaps,
I don't think there nothing unsure about the composition IMO. The grumpy veil did give nice effects of the foreground up to the horizon. I like how the image was created, what elements it consists of, how the shape or lights are related to each other, how nature does play with our photography skills. The image shows how nature transforms sceneries on their mood. Well taken and presented!

Hi Kristaps,
what you think it's not good works perfectly for me. I think the foreground must pop-up to share attention with the mountain and dranatic sky. I don't know what was your work on the exposure but it's well balanced IMO. I like it!

Hi, Kristaps. There are different layers in your image, which gives a very good depth to it. The contrasts are strong, individualizing the different parts very well. It looks as if the clouds are coming out of the volcano. I guess the light was difficult to manage, but you did it quite well.
Have a nice weekend,

Hello Kristaps,
Very impressive shot of this desolate landscape. The stark contrasts in the areas light and shadow, especially the shadow of the cloud, suggests that it is exceedingly dry. Does the volcano rise well into the clouds or does it end at the level of the low-lying clouds?
Warm regards,

Hello Kristaps,
It was little difficult for me to recognize fantastic effect of light and shadow on lake and grasses. I think the reason was mossy shore. Wow, what an enviable view and capture! Next bald ridges, dark sky, touching to next hill with dark clouds are wonderful. Congratulations.

Hi Kristaps,
Beautiful surreal landscape with so many interesting layer first with the richly textured foreground desert vegetation meeting the yellow algae that works so well with the unreal shade of vivid blue then to the treeless mountains that touch the stormy sky.
The clear colors really pop in the sharply detailed composition.

Hi Kristaps,
I like this, that big dark cloud looks like it is coming out of the mountain like a big smoking cigar. The both of you found really great light in chile. The play with light and shadow is wondeerful here and creates wondeful depth. For me the bright foreground works very good, in combination with the darker middle section makes the image very interesting to look at....very good work,
Take care,

Kristaps,
Is this one of them large cookies? Laying under such drammatic clouds, so threatening with a down pour, that would ruin the cookie, so we better eat it fast. It would have been nice to see the top of the volcano too, but this leave it to our imagination and beside I believe we will see it in other shots when it's clear. Good shot. Thanks, my friend.
