I met him at the corner of the Hotel, waiting for customers, the color ones called my attention
They are made with the feathers of Rhea, a kind of ostrich, natural of America, smaller, they prefer open fields, dominated by grass, and usually they are at less than 1200 meters high
They are chassed mainly by their leather, to make clothes, (beautiful and expensive ones), feathers (for dustings) so nowadays is difficult to find them, no common anymore
The seller told me that because of very high prices, he is now also selling some (the color ones) made of synthetic material and little ones made of wool
The way he works
Traveling all the time from North to South (he has customers along the Chilean territory) approx. 4300 km/ 2671ml
He was going to stay some 3 days in San Pedro so people/customers have time to know he has arrived, returning in 4 months, more or less

He certainly shines the day Maria! and fully agree with your statement that feather duster such as this is uncommon, even in my country it's hard to find one nowadays, it's the thing of the past so to speak. What a wonderful shot, peeking and venturing into the street and capturing the essence of local life and glad that he's happy too with your presence which implies the high spirited mood. I believe this shot bespeaks a time and place so well not only the stunning colours are real winner but more importantly is, the humble pleasant gentleman really touches my heart! I love it, Well done, Congrats :)

hello Maria, nice portrait of this seller of feathers. interesting note. he travels much :0. In the narrow Chile, the distances are really big, making his life difficult.

Marvelous photo, Maria.
The story about this travelling salesman is most interesting in the note written.
Yet, the picture was well taken, the feathers of a Rhea is something new to me, and the colors are amazingly vivid.
Fine portrait, subject is most intriguing. That's TE mission - to my humble opinion.

The color would attract people alright, and a little sad to think that he only has the colored ones because these creatures are disappearing. It makes an amusing scene to see the man selling like this, he is dressed so normal and everyday, yet his hat and the feathers in his hand make it a very strange sight. Nice allignment of the photo too that you take in great depth in the scene with the background. nicely captured!
All the best

a great portrait of the vendor-traveller with his makeshift trolley and merchandise. So good you talked to him and learned so much about the stuff he sells and about his way of working. You've introduced him to the viewer in a thorough way and his portrait has gained interest and meaning. You've managed the lighting remarkably, textures and colours are very natural and clear throughout the frame. The dynamic backdrop is superb. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Well now, this is something new...I've never encountered or heard of anyone selling feather duster's on the street!? Quite interesting to say the least...and I certainly give him credit for coming up with a different idea. :) Great realization of this colorful product and scene, you've taken advantage of the opportunity to create an intriguing and thoughtful image. Makes me wonder how well he does in sales, where he travels, transportation of the inventory, etc. I like these real life, street scenes that generate human interest and curiosity, especially when they're done as well as this. Thanks for sharing an original. :) Enjoy your evening.

This is very original photo. I like the excellent arrangement in portrait format. The color balance is also very good. Even that the eyes are little bit closed, the direct eye contact is very good. Well done IMO. Greetings, miro

Hola Nikkitta !!

an interesting photo from Chile
I can easily see why this man caught your attention!
its pretty hard NOT to miss this man walking the streets.
Funny that you mention Ostrich, because some of the dusters actually do look exactly like ostrich feathers.
all he needs now are some sun glasses to shade his eyes and he's set to go.
funny yet cultural at the same time.
mkamionka (38329) 2013-09-05 3:18
this is so unexpected and funny too, but I guess the brushes would make a great souvenir. One can use this souvenir to dust off the other souvenirs -so practical! Lovely capture of the man at this extraordinary work. Great idea, well done,

un personaje curioso vendiendo estos objetos. acá tenemos esto en las tiendas pero son hechas con penas de avestruces. muy buena la luz indirecta y los detalles de la foto con las casas al fundo.

I like his hat! I bet you it serves double duty as a duster. Lovely colors, nice perspective, a proud man. Well seen and rendered.
