Photographer’s Note
The Place
This is the salty ground around the Tebenchinque lagoon. This in the middle of the Atacama salt lake. This photo was taken after finding this tree.
You can always check the location of my photos by clicking on the map link.
Background
I took this photo few minutes before sunset. I wanted a more reddish light coming from the low-angle sun, which could have given me a red-looking ground. I waited and waited for the light, but never came; it seems the air was not appropriate for that. I took many photos, so at least I did not waste my time. The result with the white ground is not that bad anyway.
During the time there we also had fun walking on the lake!!. A light wind did not allow having a perfect reflection, but still fun.
If you go there, take water (not necessarily drinkable water) to clean off the salt from your body.
Technical
Shooting almost at ground level. No major PP

Hello Jorge! I just returned from the Salt Flats in Utah (Bonneville Salt Flats) the other day so I had to open your photo :)))) What a great foreground, how special and exciting, how nice the distant mountains, what wonderful light. Isn't it special to walk on salt? In some parts where we were it had water which should go away, at least this is what they hope for when speed week is on in August. Yes the shoes but they do offer water to clean your shoes at the highway restarea. Sorry, I got carried away ... but it is just some days that I was there in Wendover/Utah so excuse me for this. Great photo, I love it. Best regards, happy Sunday, Barbara.

Hi Jorge
3 dimensions picture due to he long shadows thanks to a low sun. Good use of the ultra wide angle to incorporate mountains in the background and the salty rocks at a few inches of the lens.
Hats off

Hi Jorge.
A stunning image, with a lovely blue gradient in the sky and amazing detail on the very close-up foreground of this other-worldly salty earth. The distant mountains really add the strong sense of depth. Maybe it's not what you aimed for, but it's a beauty. You got the pinkish effect from the mountains if not the sun. Wonderful work.

Andrew

Hi Jorge,
even though it didn't turn out as you wanted, I think this is a successful shot. Texture on the ground, repetitive patterns, beautiful light still, mountain range in the background.....Well done. Works for me.
Best,
Philippe

Hello Jorge -
I had to study this one for a few minutes to discern what it was - then i read your notes. I think you did an excellent job capture the strange salt formations as well as the grand landscape in itself. I think you made something out of nothing with the image by waiting for the right moment with the light. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Hola Bruno, excelente captura y gran definición que permite apreciar la textura de la sal. Las sombras alargadas del atardecer juegan un papel muy importante en esta foto y permiten observar el relieve del suelo.
Un gran trabajo en el Salar de Atacama. Felicitaciones.

hi Jorge,
the foreground looks like some bacteria growing in a Petri dish :) I don't think you're missing much without the red evening light, I actually like the cooler tones here, I find they make everything look even stranger. great composition emphasising foreground, very good work.

Kristine

Hello Jorge,
Congratulations on an outstanding natural record and a spectacular piece of natural graphic art. Your patience may not have been rewarded with exactly what you hoped for but I find the light, hues and your almost ground level POV stunning. Thank you.

Hello Bruno,
This must be an amazing place to spend some time with a camera!
A very photogenic landscape with special qualities, and the light seems to be remarkable too...
This is a great composition with pin sharp details, with the salt plains leading to the lake and finally the mountains in the back..!
Greetings,

Hi Jorge
By chance I saw your gallery, there is some great stuff! Your latest picture is a great idea and perfectly executed. The Sigma wide angle proved that it has some quality. Actually was thinking last year, to choose the Sigma 10-20mm but then took the Zuiko 11-22mm. The price difference was not big, so I felt I go for the original lens and not a third party one. Now I see, that Sigma is a fine lens. I will keep it in mind for another time. What can I say about your picture others, then that everything is perfect, sharpness, contrast, colors and DOF. Congrats
Best regards

Hi Jorge, I like this very steep-angled view on the foreground with interesting salt formation and texture and exponentially going horizontal showing the lake and the mountain ranges at the background! Very inspiring vision and creation, also this is geologically very interesting...I heard on TV that some elements (could be the element B) are very useful in producing batteries for electric cars and largest deposits are found in the salt fields of South America. Hello Jorge
First your use of these salt formations as ample FG & perspective & second the light on them coming from the left creating a distinct 3D effect...these make the picture a visual treat! Add to that the mountains in the BG. Thanks for your WS posts...that's a lot of salt here. Excellent post

Hi Jorge:
Great shot. You can't beat the wide angle for a scene like this. Nothing to complain about; it's a textbook perfect landscape shot composition-wise. Great job.

Hello Jorge
I've been browsing through your gallery and I'm amazed by the consistant quality of your images. This one is no exception. I really like the immense depth of field, the low pov, the surreal and mineral aspect of this place.
Superb indeed

Emmanuel
