Photographer’s Note
The Place
This is a panoramic version of El Dorado.
See the large version here.
You can always check the location of my photos by clicking on the map link.
Background
I have made this panoramic of Miscanti lagoon with 16 vertical shots at 50mm that took me days to complete, but I am not happy with the result. It is my first time making a pano and I think I used the wrong software (freeware). I think that if I want to have nice panoramic photos I need to invest on a good software. Nevertheless, since all my effort, I wanted to post it anyway and have your opinion. In this pano you can see the whole Miscanti lagoon, and a tip of the Miñique lagoon at the right side.
Technical
16 vertical shots at 50mm
Full manual mode
Canon Digital pro 2.2 for stitching
Resize, frame. I had to add a lot of frame to fulfill the 250 px minimum requirement.

It's beautiful, excellent choice of format. I'll do the same if i see this view. You should also try PTGui for stitching Bruno, maybe the result of the larger version will be much even more better.

Hello Jorge! The mini version is already a treat for my eyes with this wonderful wide frame around it and as I never do panoramas (I have absolutely no patience for this kind of thing, almost like knitting ... most of the time my mother had to finish my stuff ... LOL) I am impressed anyway :))) I know this does not help you any further but maybe it makes you smile. The large version is really impressive for me, it gives you a wonderful idea, almost like standing there myself. Best regards, Barbara.

Hello Jorge,
This is a fabulous view. The altitude makes teh veiw crystal clear and it offers an amazing contrast between the dry brown hills and the stunninjg blue lake. Vastness and solitude are the impressions created.

Hi Jorge,
Impressive this landscape and for sure something i would like to see with my own eyes. It shows this great landscape in all his beauty. Stitching is not perfect, i see all vertical lines through the image and i'm sure when your exposures are correct and you used at least 1/3 for over-lapping that other software would do a much better job that the standard Canon software.
Anyway, the landscape it self deserves a lot of attention because it's beautiful.

Henk

Hi Jorge,
16 shots? That's a lot of work. This scenery deserves a panorama like yours. The large version is a must-see. Very good work on the catch and pp work.

Carlos

Hi Jorge, It is so thin as a thumbnail, but what a wonderful surprise in large version. I like the result very much. In my opinion, is good, I do not see the stitches and is straight. I think that when you have so many photos to stich, the main problem is to have it in one line. I usually obtain a barrel. The software seems to me less important. a mazing sharpness. Great work!!

Nice shot, or shots. Great looking Pano. If you find some good software let me know. Although, personally I just don't have the patiense to do something like this anymore.
Great color and a decent job. Reading Floydian's post, I had to go back and look at the large version again ...yes, you can see the vert. lines, but thas only after they were pointed out. Plus, they are really only visible in the sky and they can be blended in fairy easily (easily meaning another two days of work of course).
All in all, looks great,
John

Hi Jorge,
You succeeded this pano very well ! The colors and light are great of this magnificent view.
I did use the stitching program of Canon myself and had to search for a better one because of the vertical lines. Now I am using Hugin, it can be find as freeware.

Hi Jorge,
I love the place, very nice subject to try out a well taken pano, I agree you did not use the optimal software, if you can try to get PTGUI, very easy to use and excellent results, with these files it would easily equalize the stitching areas.
Have a nice day JY

Hola Jorge,
Really stunning view, that calls for a panorama like the one you did. There is something divine and overwhelming about deserts, even more if they are high like this one is and I see that clearly here.
If it wasn't for the signs of stitching in the sky, the large view would be technically perfect. I wonder what software you used, because despite I have never tried stitching so many shots, I would expect that Hugin, the software I used to use, would do better, perhaps with with a little less effort than what you describe. But I am just guessing and the fact is that I switched to Autostitch pro when I discovered that it can do better with much less effort.
Un abrazo,
José

Hi Jorge,
You might not be completly happy with this pano but I find it quite good. It isn't all that easy to come up with something that we are totally satisfied with. I also tried a few and found it pretty difficult.
I like the dark blue of the lake. It reminds me to a certain extent Lago Chungara which I visited in 1994. The landscape is surreal.

Paul

Fantastica!!!
