Photographer's Note

Taken at Reserva Nacional Los Flamencoes, I liked this photo because the scene looks so calm. We were, at times, quite close to the flamingoes but, for the most part, they didn't take much notice of our presence. There are different, distinct, subspecies of flamingoes. These ones, I was informed, are Andean flamingoes. We were told that others, even the ones in nearby Bolivia, are noticeably different in their markings.

Wikipedia informs us that there are six species of flamingoes. Four of these are in South America while it states the other two are in what they term the 'old world'.
