Photographer’s Note

Valparaíso (literally in Spanish: Paradise Valley and also called "Valpo" locally) is a major city in Chile and one of that country's most important seaports and an increasingly vital cultural center in the hemisphere's Pacific Southwest. Nicknamed “The Jewel of the Pacific”, Valparaíso was declared a world heritage site based upon its improvised urban design and unique architecture.

Immortalized in the words of Pablo Neruda as the ‘Ocean’s sweetheart’ (“novia del océano”), the city that ‘goes to Paradise’ ("Va al paraíso") is one of Chile’s —if not South America’s— most charismatic and historic ports, with its charming “ascensores” (funiculars) and colorful hillside houses.

Open Air Museum in Bellavista

There are more than twenty contemporary murals, come by art students, and others by the most renowned painters Chile has produced in the 20th century. To complement the public art, the Valparaíso Foundation restored the facades of 23 homes in the neighborhood, converting this section of Bellavista Hill into one of the most photographed spectacles in the city. The most interesting murals include those of Roberto Matta, Roser Bru, and Nemesio Antunez.

Hello Malgorzata,
I was in Valparaiso a few years ago and also strolled through the Open air Museum, but don't recall having seen this mural painting. I love it... it's so colorful and well integrated with the building it's on. Nice detail of those cables too... so typical of that city.

Ale kolorowo sie zrobilo. Czy wszystko w Chile takie kolorowe? Maja ludziska pomysly. Ciekawe okienko(a),prosty ale za to bardzo zakrecony kadr kolorystycznie, daje po oczach ;).

That's a pretty nice photograph of colorful buildings in Valparaiso!
Those small details also give us a great amount of knowledge about a place and you have captured them perfectly in that city of Chile!

No, jesli bylas w Valparaiso to chyba prawie na koncu swiata a raczej kontynentu. Niezwykle motywy na budynku, fajna gama kolorow. Interesujaca notka i praca. Podoba mi sie.

you have so many nice shots in your gallery, but this one just jumped off the page. I love those clear, brilliant colors and the wonderful detail. All kinds of neat lines and things to look at. What a cool place that would be to visit. Great way to show it to the world and many thanks!
