This is a part of Valparaiso, the city that boasts a labyrinth of streets and cobblestone alleyways. There are interesting buildings, houses and small restaurants but also graffiti and beautiful murals that make it worth for a visit here.
The locals adviced us be careful with cameras and jewellery due the risk of muggings, but we did not have any problems at all. Just common sense and you will most likely have a troublefree stay:)

It seems like little urban planning came along in the development of this district.
Nevertheless, this part of Valparaiso looks particularly attractive. The difference in level on which the houses are built, and mainly the many different colours of the houses are the reason for this.
It's certainly tempting for a visitor of Valparaiso to wander around on these streets. But security remains a critical issue.
Best regards, Paul

nice the view as the presentation of this section of Valparaiso with the houses to are one so close to the other, reaching the top of the hill.I like the variety of the colours, the light management with the tight frame,to bring out the details of them.

Hello Boa, And finally the wide panorama of the Valparaiso. Incredible view.
Many people in Chile told me not to show the camera . But with no ready camera why I should go?? I didn't care and we had no problems.
When I was there, the was quite bit fire a bit earlier, so I saw the churred rubbles in the center, also a hostel in Punta Arenas where I wanted to stay burnt with ten victims (The fire was precisely in the night I wanted to stay but I changed reservation a bit earlier), and I SAW a fire also in Valparaiso. After that I was very nervous in any wooden house.
Best regards MAlgo

Excellent viewpoint as the light is picking out the compact cluster of dwelling on the slope with some nice eye catching colors. A characterful place surely which make it very interesting to explore and I think green, possibly their traditional colour, carries more weight influencing viewers' mind in this shot. Good depiction with extensive detail to enjoy, Congrats, tfs

nice panoramic presentation of Valparaiso. Amazing colorful wooden houses. The fire in such a place can be terrible. Superb quality of photo.

I was in Valparaiso back in 2005! I went there by bus, from Santiago, early in the morning, and went back in the late afternoon! No problems at all! Of course, as a brazilian, I'm used to being careful and avoiding places that are unsafe!
Once I went to Italy and I've read many things about troubles I could face, specially down south! Again, for a brazilian, that was a piece of cake!
Your picture shows the city outside the common tourist places and I like that!
TFS - congrats,

I remember the high density of legally and illegally built residences in this hilly city. The admonishment by locals about being careful of muggers, unhappily, extends to much better cities as well. Riding on a subway late in the evening in New York, I was evidently brandishing my Nikon N90, when another passenger approached me and with apparent frustration at my naivety warned me, "Put that camera away!"

Apart from the absence of mosques this looks amazingly similar to some of the cities I've seen in Turkey. Good color and sharpness with effective tight framing. The patch of blue sky was a good inclusion and the effective tight framing and wide angled panoramic crop work well. Tfs!

Magnifique vue sur la cité aux façades colorées, bon POV, très belle lumière
macjake (64714) 2014-03-12 11:07
Here she is alright!
I remember this view very well.
lots of houses stacked ontop of each other, some in good condition, many in not-so good condition.
very vibrant colors they use too, that also adds to the charm.
glad to hear you made it out safe haha
looking forward to seeing more.

Hello boa ,
Despite of the fact that many of these buildings are very humble , this quarter of Valparaiso has a lot of charm , especially for the little coloured houses .

Wow!!! awesome. Just beautiful and wonderfully executed. I like the colors, sharpness and fantastic clarity. Tfs your beautiful work. Best regards and have a great WE, Barbara

The distance between tbe bottom and the top of the hill is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details, the colours of the houses and of the buildings. The good luminosity is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

josepmarin (58325) 2014-03-27 4:50
first, I want to notice this is your 200th photo published here. Congratulations!
You have chosen a good visual angle for to see the urban architectural chaos of the city, climbing through the hills, and with which we can enjoy all the strong graphical and chromatic effect of the houses.
A beautiful and interesting work.
adores (43891) 2014-04-02 14:52
Great view over the city! The houses seem small and so colourful. I believe it must be a fantastic experience to discover the streets, there is probably a lot to be discovered there.
Good to know you had no problems!

Good evening Boa,
Reading the note made me smile - because you don't look as one that would have problems strolling around the pavelas... but one can never know.
Fine clear view of the poor neighbourhood, some new houses seem to "popp" within.
Favorable daylight well collected.
asajernigan (21427) 2014-09-22 2:36
This is a nice shot of this interesting array of buildings. The lighting is fine and the photo has fine color and sharpness. You have captured many fine points of interest in the shot.
