While Valparaiso is a beautiful city with stunning views, steep hills and bright colorful homes and decorations, it is also a city of evident poverty. Many crumbled facades line major streets, side by side with renovated pastel homes and businesses; graffiti, like this, marks much of the city.
I came across this boy, kneeling curbside along a faded, chipping wall marked with graffiti, quite near the site of my previous photo, and within the boundaries of Valparaiso's most upscale, touristy area. I had only a couple of seconds to take the shot as traffic rolled by, frequently blocking my view.

A most appealing and strong composition. The boy tucked in the corner suits the subject matter. I love the colours and textures of the shabby wall. A very artistic shot - well done for catching it.
Kind Regards, Ann

This shot says so much and signifies the message you are trying to put across perfectly. The elements are well balanced within the shot, especially as you did not have time to plan. The contrast in colour between the boy and the background wall work too. Well captured street shot.

Very nice picture, well framed. I like picture of battered building. It's even better if it has graffiti on. I might post one of my own soon.

I was about to complain of the very tight cropping at the bottom, then I read your note and understood the circumstances. The boy is well placed and makes the picture something more than just a photo of an empty wall. The cracked plaster and faded paint have given the wall a strange beauty and the graffiti to the right shows an undeniable artistic talent.

A picture that shows us the other side of the coin. The boy almost lost in the corner and the derelict building, the graffiti on the wall and the chipped painting, all add together to a picture with a strong message.
