I know i'm probably not showing anything new and exciting here, but can you blame me for wanting to keep posting photo's from Easter Island??
If you ever get the opportunity to visit, you'll find these Moai Heads in 2 basic ways.
Renting a vehicle and driving around the Island you'll come across them sporadically, miles apart along the coast line, one lonely face looking out onto the ocean...and or you'll see them grouped together like this at one specific sight - this was at Rano Raraku.
My only wish for the photo itself was better lighting on the Moai face in the fg, but we can't get what we want all the time! I loved the sky and clouds, it was a perfect day!
Hope you like it
Rosemary and Anghsu have already commented that i could have used HDR, as i often do, to bring out the face in the Moai. They're right...i tried already but the lighting was not in my favor. At this exact moment when taking the photo, the light was best facing the opposite direction.
The HDR version of this that i have, the colors are washed out so i didn't keep it.
If only we had an infinite amount of time on our journeys, I would have gladly stayed longer for the best light! Hope you still enjoy the photo

This picture reminded me of Thor heyedral's book 'Aku Aku'...surely you have read that book?
The Maoi heads are an enigma & I would feel exactly like you...a deep attachment to the place & sharing the pictures to share your excitement & enthusiasm.
Am surprised if you did not do your HDR here to get us see more details of the face in the FG...you are a master in that!...
Have a great WE Craig!
SnapRJW (31629) 2014-03-20 23:25
There is a wonderful wildness about this shot Craig. The landscape looks windblown and exposed, the clouds full of movement and the sculpted heads seem to spring from the earth itself. I think it must be impossible not to be moved by a scene like this, it strips away the modern details of life and goes right back to basics.
Difficult light but I think you could bring in details in the FG head by dodging. It would improve the overall result and is worth trying. Alternatively, as Angshu suggests HDR.
Have you ever tried fill-in-flash? That might have worked too but I have no experience of using it.

Dobar tekst o ostrvu i mestu sa opisom, lep pogled ...
Dobar trenutak snimka, ostrina, kontrast i perspektiva, lepo pokazano mesto i kipovi, lepe boje.
Dobar rad i kompozicija, lepi kipovi i priroda.
Ostali su kipovi, secanje na jednu civilizaciju i obicaje.
A good article about the island and the place with the description , nice view ...
Good time recording , sharpness , contrast and perspective , nice place and shown the statues , beautiful colors .
Good work and composition , beautiful statues and nature .
Other statues are , the memory of a civilization and customs.
All the best .

Même si la lumière n'était pas la plus favorable ici, le ciel et le point de vue sur les moais valent vraiment la peine.

Congratulations for this nice picture despite the light that was not easy.
The composition is dynamic, with a beautiful sky.
dta (81604) 2014-03-21 1:12
Hello Craig ,
This fantastic sky provides a great dynamism to this capture of the famous statues . The composition is excellent .The lighingt was not easy . But , as others said , may be it would have been better with some détails on the staues , especially the one in the FG .

well you knew I would love this one didn't you. A real sense of being there in this w/a shot. It gives us such a superb idea of the setting and tranquil magic of this place. I never realised you could get this close to these amazing Moai Heads it must be inspiring to just touch one. Awesome place and image that captures the atmosphere and emotion so succinctly. Love it!
Have a good weekend - B.

I do not think this place can be boring, so for me you can post as many photos from there as you like. The quality of the picture is of really high standard - the chosen POV, the whole composition with nicely given proportions and delicate angle of the hill - they all add very much to the final result. I also enjoy the properly saturated colors.
Thanks for sharing
ktanska (29017) 2014-03-21 4:18
Not many visit Easter Island, so there's no chance we could get bored of seeing such views. The sky is beautiful, I think such wave like clouds generally mean lovely weather.
Those Moais certainly look original and the style is clear after centuries of wind and rain beating them.
Sergiom (87179) 2014-03-21 5:26
Tu es un des rares qui a réussi à te rendre à cet endroit mythique. J'aime beaucoup l'effet de cette lentille qui est magnifique pour capter les ciels avec profondeur. J'aurais peut être donné un petit coup de flash pour dégager les ombres.
snunney (105503) 2014-03-21 5:55
I like very much the point of view with the group of Moai framing the expansive landscape off to the left falling down toward the ocean. Also, that superb sky. Some more detail in the foremost Moai would be nice but it is not a show stopper and certainly does nothing to spoil our overall enjoyment.
rychem (41630) 2014-03-21 9:43
You present us these, ysterious heads on the Easter Island, beautiful shot , nice composition and presentation, beautiful cloudy sky,
holmertz (58256) 2014-03-21 11:58
You should try to get a job for the National Geographic. Then you would have all the time in the world and all the equipment needed to make every picture perfect. How does that sound? Meanwhile, as ordinary people, we won't have everything our way and have to accept a just better than average, if not perfect, picture from Rapa Nui. And the clouds don't need any more light. They're quite nice looking too.
I thought Rapa Nui was the name of the entire island, not just one location.
carlo62 (54122) 2014-03-21 16:08
il cielo con queste nuvole è una scenografia perfetta per i soggetti che hsi fotografato.
PaulVDV (31907) 2014-03-22 2:36
When visiting a city, it's easier to go back to a certain spot for a second time. When visiting a bigger area like this island, I understand you normally have only one opportunity to make the best shots.
Still the 'spirit' of Easter Island is captured very well here: the infinite landscape along the ocean and the group of mysterious giant statues.
I thought I read in one or your earlier notes (or perhaps it was Bülent who wrote it) that most statues look inland. This place here must be an exception then.
The sky with its many long cloud lines is a brilliant backdrop.
Best regards, Paul

Quite an stunning view over the even more amazing statues of easter island here. The wide landscape and the open sky convey a feeling of loneliness and quiet that is very pleasing.
have a great sunday

Nope, can't blame you at all for wanting to show your pictures from here...and frankly, I hope you don't stop, I love 'em!
The title made me want to respond with a Scooby Doo "ruh-roh." :) No matter where they are, or what figure has been carved out, these heads are down right fascinating...and you've done a great job displaying them in fun and unique ways.
A sweet example of the wide angle playing to the strengths of the material provided, those cloud formations steal the show on this, fanning out like rays over these mystical heads. Awesome shot, these must have been grouped together for a meeting of the minds! haha O.K., bad pun, but I couldn't resist.
Have a good one. Take it easy.
subhendu_bagchi (26089) 2014-03-23 1:49
another excellent picture from this wonder sight of our planet. I like the darkness which may be unwanted to you. I like the sharp contrast of it with the surrounding nature. An excellent frame, and I think, nicely exposed. Great shot. Tfs.
krzychu30 (15512) 2014-03-23 4:48
maybe HDR would bring out more details of the Moai statues, but you put stress here more on the atmosphere of this scene, than details and I´m really glad about it.
Great wide-ange perspective(really well used here!)and really amazing sky(it has superb "movement"look, like you would used ND filter to prolong the exposure time).
Have a nice sunday
mesutilgim (97184) 2014-03-23 13:45
Nice capture of this interesting "heads" of Easter Island.
Good pov and layout. Very nice cloudy sky as background and many interesting notes.
TFS and best regards
mirosu (16273) 2014-03-24 4:23
Accept my congratulations on this excellent quality photo. I like the landscape format which highlights the character of the composition as well as very smartly chosen POV. The multiple statues create very pretty eye leading element. The beautiful sky add very much to the composition in elegant and colorful way. Great light, colors and superb sharpness.
Very well done.
claudeD (41246) 2014-03-24 10:46
wonderful picture from easter Islands with a very good composition and with an amazing cloud formation in the sky. I like your contribution to TE here very much.TFS.

very nice the view of this section of Easter island with the stone massif heads to are known worlwide.Really the sky is spectacular making the image even more effective.
PS I read in your note that you will visit some countries and among them will be Greece.I'm living in Athens and i'll be glad to meet you.
photoray (13981) 2014-03-25 6:49
Interesting positioning to exhibit the unique Rano Raraku statues, from the side progressing along the grassy hillside with a dramatic clouded sky.
National Geographic proposes the statues were 'rocked' upright using ropes from their rock quarries instead of the older theory of being rolled on wood logs into position.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful place,
COSTANTINO (68902) 2014-03-25 7:13
Hello dear friends
is there any explosion here?
magnificent view of the clouds
running away from the sky
a real sense of being there
welldone and wellseen
have a nice evening
mkamionka (39803) 2014-03-25 8:46
not sure about light but the sky was fantastic! And the wide angle emphasized it even more. Great composition with the famous shapes staring at the ocean. I think the silhouettes are so famous that they are good enough as silhouettes indeed and they don't need better light. Everything else is perfectly lit anyway.
The photo has a great feeling of vast space untouched by civilization other than the statues of course.
Royaldevon (42533) 2014-03-26 2:55
This is a glorious photograph.
I am surprised that you have kept it until now before you posted it!
The subject of the statues is immediately compelling, especially as there is a line of them as a guide but they are given even more status by the clouds, which radiate from them like a religious halo.
A lovely shot and one which I enjoyed very much.
Have a great day,
ChrisJ (117201) 2014-03-26 8:21
A nice profiled view of the enigmatic Eater Island statues. The crazy angles of the ones at the back add interest. Good sharpness and a nice blue sky! Excellent shadow detail with good density levels. Have a nice week!
Didi (60590) 2014-03-26 8:52
Wondeful place with anice deep sky
Very good backlights ambiance
adramad (48980) 2014-03-26 9:22
Spectacular panoramic, this green slope, descending diagonally to the sea, these fantastic moair that seem to be looking at the horizon towards the sea, the sky is big bonus with these clouds so fantastic, to complete this beautiful work.
Nice color, in these natural tones.
Also both sharpness, such as lighting are great.
Very good picture. I Like
Enjoy a nice day.
kwekwekan (1078) 2014-03-27 13:31
The sweeping blue and white of the sky really adds life to the picture. Great angle here as well with the sculptures nicely positioned and a good line leading up the hill. Fantastic brightness and clarity too.
Cricri (124848) 2014-03-28 11:00
Un lieu de découverte a la fois étrange et pleine de curiosité, le ciel est spectaculaire, dynamiste des nuages avec une superbe lumière, belle réussite
patpatch (1601) 2014-04-03 9:44
that's a very nice view of these Moai Heads.Maybe that's a classic scenery ,but your composition is remarkable.
I like the strong effect of the sky where the clouds seem to be spewed out from the faces of the Moai Heads .
Very good colours and brightness.
adores (46357) 2014-04-20 7:44
Another great one, even if it wasn't the best time of the day to show the face of the Moai, the photo is very good and the lonely heads in such a wide space are just magical. Fantastic sky also, looks as if the clouds are coming from the Moai.
Happy a Great easter!
