This is a photo i've been wanting to post for a while now, and i'm just getting around to it now.
A couple of things I love about this scene. One, is the sleepy dog - I'm a huge dog lover myself so i couldn't resist this.
Secondly, i love the colorful architecture in many of the side streets in Santiago.
This is a rustic looking corner store where we would by our waters and juices everyday, located just a few steps from our hotel.
Hope you like it.

As you may know I also like photographing shops and shop windows. I certainly couldn't give this one a miss. The dog fast asleep and dressed in his little coat is the cherry on the cake. Great colours and sharpness.

Great street photography - that dog just looks so cute but also rather funny in its jacket. I love the view of this street corner with the glimpse in to the shop. A colourful image despite the run down look of the shop - but then that is what appeals to us as photographers!
Best wishes, Ann

Hi, Craig. Nice colors. Perfectly framed shot. I like the many colors and posters and, of course, the cute dressed dog. TFS

That lime green color jumps out at first, but there are lots of cool details in this photo. That dog must have had a hard day, since he is passed out near the door!! Ha ha! Then there are more security gates, and lots of advertisements. It's a nice daily life shot.

I like it! ;o)
You are right to post that photograph, it's a pleasure for the eyes and like Worldcitizen,I like to explore details of usual scenes in countries I don't know.
And the added value is that your picture is of great quality.

The dog steals the show, and I like his style in jumpers too, classy canine! I cannot tell from the angle what breed he is, but he looks like a fair sized animal. A perfect guardian to the little shop of delights. Cool that you even have to step over him to get inside too. The green color catches the eye very nicely.
All the best

Carefully framed view of a kiosk entrance full of colorful details. And the dog with coat as the funniest one.
Kind of global scene that could be from almost anywhere, except Switzerland.

excellently noticed and executed shot!
I don´t know how to explain it,but it captures well this South American kind of laid back and relaxed way of life.
The dog and his pose are priceless here:)
Lovely, funny and above all very atmospheric composition!
Have a nice day

Attractive street store, a kind of place where you can find a lot of things. The sleepy dog is quite charming. Well taken.

Ciao e buona serata

As you say, we're neighbours today!
Now this very colourful picture - with the dog in the foreground (wearing an overcoat this time) reminds me of this other picture from Valparaiso! In fact, did you read my critique on that picture? - I also enclosed a couple of links to some very interesting videos!!!
This is a lovely picture with good tight composition and very fine colours. No real human interest here but the sleeping dog does just as well (if not better!). As always, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness.

As you say colourful and well composed too with a feeling of symmetry underlying the scene but the thing that makes it is the dog! Love it!

like this! A superb insight into the laid back lifestyle of our four legged friend and proof that it is a dog's life wherever you are on the planet. Plus of course a glimpse of the more mundane human elements in Chile too. A great POV and an image full of character and style. Well done!

For one who loves buildings and colourful facades, complete with a variety of textures, this is a treat.
I particularly love the dog, wearing a very jazzy coat. I suppose the weather was cold enough to warrant a coat as this doesn't appear like type of area where a pooch would be spoilt!
Have a good day,

You're capturing well this store by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the store treating a drink or miscellaneous goods in downtown. For people, it is visible to a sociable store. So, it's also tasteful for the advertisement posters of goods, scribbles of a wall and blue shutter etc., in entrace. And, it looks like artistic as the entire color variation. The sleeping dog draws out a familiar and peaceful impact in this image.

Such a simple but effective composition, i feel the four legged friend sets against the green wall being the icing on the cake for me. Good range of tones with a typical local mix of styles and materials. Love it, Congrats and tfs.

Hi, I remember alot of dogs in Chile. They were everywhere, I had no idea if they wee owned by someone or stray but all were quite friendly and didn't disturb. And all were similar, in the same beige colour. I haven/t seen any black dog and in a jacket. It is really funny.

This is marvelous.Lots of colors and a sleeping dog.Nice colorful details and very pleasantly shown.TFS.
Best wishes and warm regards

This photo could have been taken right here in South Africa, in South LA or in Turkey, with grungy walls and dodgy area. But just like you, I like this kind of dilapidated place where you can meet real people, interesting characters and a sense of authenticity, away from the beaten paths and touristic spots.
And just like in other parts of the world where we can find these corner stores, I notice the lack of light inside that seems to be recurrent and associated with these shabby "Seven-Eleven"...
And you are right, the dog makes the shot, it is crucial in the impact and interest of your image, as a fundamental "visual accessory". I also like the guacamole coloured walls, which contribute to the sense of underprivileged slum.
mcmtanyel (5249) 2013-09-29 21:57
I agree with you, I like all the things you love about this photo. I am glad you got around to it. I'll add one more thing that I like: Quasi-symmetry. It's almost symmetric but not quite and I think it is a more interesting effect than complete symmetry.
PS. To respond to your comment about taking a few photos: A few photos? I went for a walk in the park and came back with 600+ photos! :-))

Alright, I'm in the same boat now...I thought for sure I had remarked on this photo!? I'm blaming my memory loss on old age! :)
I could look at these kinds of pictures all day, I absolutely love the 'real' side of life that comes through with a shot like this. I have an abundance of storefront pictures myself, I think they help tell so much more of a story about a city and its inhabitants than almost anything else...even the graffiti plays part of the personality, even if it is "ugly." A good choice of shop too with the bright lime green, it really stands out.
And then to the dog, haha...just perfect, what more could you want to express the character of this place? :) Love it!

It's really a nice and colourful corner! I like the colours and specially the publicity on the walls. The dog sleeping is perfect there and adds a lot to the photo.
I did not forget your question, will send you an email tomorrow!
