Photographer’s Note

Monitor Huáscar, a Memorial Ship anchored at Talcahuano Navy Base. Built in England in 1864 for the Peruvian Navy. Captured in 1879 by Chilean Navy during the War of the Pacific. The Huáscar is one of the few early ironclad era warships to survive, and one of the only ones still afloat. The Huáscar remains highly regarded in both Peru and Chile, being considered as the tomb of the Chilean Captains, Arturo Prat and Manuel Thompson, and the Peruvian admiral Miguel Grau.
