Photographer’s Note

The Place
This is Dichato, a small fishing village that has become a major resort beach for people living in Concepción, the second biggest city in Chile, just 40 km away. The fish and seafood is really delicious here. However, very few foreign tourists come to this area, hence the lack of photos in TE. I am planning to post few shots taken during my recent trip to Chile to show this part of my country, besides the famous Atacama desert, Patagonia or Santiago.

Background
My home town is Concepción, but my parents live now near Dichato. This was the first time that the whole family was reunited for Christmas for almost a decade. I went to shoot this place in the morning of Christmas day. In Chile the main celebration is on Christmas’ Eve, on the day of December 25th is to rest and relax with the family.

hi Jorge,

I find the big letters on the frame somewhat distracting, but that's a personal preference. the light feels somewhat harsh, but the clarity is nice, especially the strong contrast between the bright yellow of the boats ad saturated blue of the sky. not exactly a Christmas scene as I'm used to them :)

I might have tried a composition more to the right, with the boat on the left further in the corner, to emphasise the curving line of the boats and avoid the clutter on the left. also, was it possible to have a lower point of view? I keep thinking that yellow boats could nicely fill the foreground (again, "covering" the somewhat cluttered horizon) and leave only sky as a backgrop. just pondering here :)

Hello Jorge,

Such a lot to like about this shot!
The colours, although a little garish, do leap off the screen so they achieve the object of being noticed.
I love the curve created by the moored boats, although it would probably be even more effective if the 2 boats on the extreme left were cropped.
Excellent sharp focus and great clarity.

Hi Jorge, I do not kniow this part of Chile. But I am sure the food is delicious as everywhere in Chile it was fantastic. I remember fantastic congrio, reineda (?) and of course salmon and crabs. I also tried something very strange - like sea urchin with the taste of ananas. I can imagine you had very joyful time, specially it must have been great for your daughter.

so, what's happening in brono-land nowadays? i see, yellow-boats and blue skies... i envy you: here we still have snow and freezing cold. photo? it sure shows the character of the the place, but don't you find it a bit too centered too? there isn't much going on in the sky so why not show us more of the boats?

Splendid contrasts of yellow boats with the blues on sea and sky are makes your frame an attractive one since its thumbnail size. I liked also your closer point of view that created great effect of your lens on front boat. The ropes, clarity of water is wonderful as same the sharpness and colors of your frame. Congratulations.
