Photographer’s Note

This is Rio de Janeiro seen from Niteroi. It makes me think, or at least try to imagine, what was the feeling the portuguese have felt for the first time, while "discovering" that place, who turned out to be a bay instead of a river.

Rio de Janeiro means January's River, because of a mistake. Portugueses thought they were entering a huge river, where in fact is our Guanabara Bay, as you can see on that picture:
