Magic Bus

When dusk turns slowly into darkness in Sampa, things start to change. Busses don’t go to the Praça da Sé or Estacão da Luz…. The new destinations are places like Hogwarts Castle, Gotham Central and the Arca sem Noé boat terminal. The honking of horns begins to follow a slow bossa nova rhythm, propelling the swerving pedestrians across the graphic pavement..... and the Batman-sign appears in the sky. Things change when dusk turns into darkness in Sampa.

Captured on the Viaduto do Cha in downtown Sao Paulo.

Magic bus is song and an album of The Who, released In 1968 on MCA. You can listen to this song here.

PCS3 tech: slightly cropped, converted to BW (gradient mapping) altered the contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, enhanced the edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized and did a gentle USM again.

More than magic I see a ghostly bus riding the streets. Well composed image. The posprocessing worked very well to create this interesting image. The dual colours are very good to enhance the mood of the scene. Nice work Bert :-)

Hi Bert,

Magnificent bus shot. I love the B& W and the feeling of the bus in motion. Really well done!

Cheers,

Ulf

Hi Bert... I wake up in the morning and I discover this photo, and suddenly the first though that comes to my mind is Tom Waits. Maybe the black and white, maybe the word Hotel hanging on the facade of the skycraper, maybe because of the urban mood... Who knows how thoughts works, so I am going to simply enjoy it. Take care.

Hi Bert,
excellent shot, I like it very much. The choice of B&W is very good and the contrast between the still city and the moving bus is very fascinating.
Well done!

Hey Bert, you make me smile ;-) I immediately had to think of Harry Potter. There's a lot of speed and sensation in the photo and your title is well chosen. Very attractive background as well, giving us a bit of Sao Paulo.

Hoe is 'tie? Long time no hear, heb 6 dagen gefietst, in Belgisch en Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, lekker, maar niet overdreven zomerweer ;-)

It is a very well done picture with a good contrasted B&W and a great sense of motion on the bus. I do like it.

Hallo Bert,

Mooi werk!
Groeten,
Lars

Hi Bert

Very good capture of movement - I think in Harry Potter too. Excellent choice for B&W. Great contrast.
Well done!

Leonor

Hi Bert,
Great ambiance in this picture, I like it a lot. And good choice for b&w! We can truly feel the dusk ambiance!
Best regards,

Hi Bert!
Very nice B&W image showing day-by-day (or night-by-night, hehe) of the great cities! The movement of the bus was excellent!
Congratulations and Hug!

Hoi Bert,
Mooie foto.

Groeten,
Stef

Hello Bert, nice moody evocative night shot here, with just enough light left to make an interesting sky. Wis I could have made that trip.

Nice catching for this bus moving. Excellent B&W tones. Wonderful job.

Hi Bert,

The many light points in the shot are interesting, they together give a extraordinary ambiance to this urban scene. I like too the movement of the bus, the blur is very effective here! Thanks.

Regards,
Angel.

Hello Bert,
What action shot!It reminds me a local rock group from Thessaloniki singing a song about a magic bus!And your bus is a magic bus in high speed.I love the black and white and all the buildings all around...like an old good movie.Great job file mou,

All the best,
Thomas

Really magical. I like the bus in moviment here. It looks a time machine backing in time.
Nice choice with the B&W. The lights were good too.

Thanks Bert
Andre

Dag Bert,
mooi korrelig en goede retro sfeer. Zelfs de witte stippen van de stofjes op het negatief ontbreken niet. Heel mooi.
Groeten Gerrit

Hi Bert, i like a lot the atmosphere of this image and your choic of BW..
it seems an image really old and i like this a lot!
bravo as usual!
ciao!
Valeria

If it's going to Hogwart's Castle it should be the Night Bus, but I don't think The Who have a song called that. ;)
You don't mention added grain but the noise adds to the atmosphere you have set up in your note. Well done
Kath

Hi Bert, I hope that all is well. I like this night impression from Sao Paulo, with a good exposure to render the lights and retain detail in the downtown architecture. The motion effect on the bus is dosed just as you would want it to be. Fine post-work to have this contrasty and grainy b&w look that is very suitable.

Hi Bert,
Very effective in B&W. I especially like the mini scene in the background comprising the sky and more distant buildings, which really gives good depth and perspective to the entire image. The flared lighting contributes to the magic of the night prevailing throughout.
