Corvo

Some Brazilian urban culture today. Shown here is skatista Corvo (Crow in English). He teaches a skating class under a stretch of Niemeyer ‘s Grande Marquise, a massive concrete (of course) structure snaking through the Parque Ibirapuera in Sampa.
After a chat –with our dear friend Isabel in the role of translator, we can get by in Portugues, but real conversations are still difficult- in which we exchanged the things we do, we watched him teaching his skate class (some techniques he used I remembered from my first cross-country ski lessons long ago) and after that he did a demonstration for us, involving making a 360 dgr turn on one bended leg, shown here and showing that he's a highly accomplished skater.

In a WS is an aerial pic from the parque as shot from our GOL Boeing a short time after take off from Conghonas airport. The white trapezium shaped building on the left is the Auditório Ibirapuera, featured in my previous shot and the Grande Marquise is the complex organic shape connecting the different buildings of the parque. A pic I posted to commemorate the horrible Conghonas airport crash from 10 days ago is here

PCS3 tech: very slightly cropped, converted to BW (gradient mapping) altered the contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, enhanced the edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized and did a gentle USM again.

Hello bert,

A very well taken shot..looks like a decisive moment shot here..wonderfully taken moment ..the choice of B/w has been very good with a great note..!! I was thinking how much slanted this man must have been as in the frame you have aligned it with the man...well taken pic.>!!

Hallo Bert,

Het zou even opletten geblazen zijn want die mannen vlammen er behoorlijk op en neer.
Wat a actie foto Bert, de gelaats uitdrukking van de man is gewoon fantasties, u bent een crack voor dergelijke foto's.
Zeer mooi gedaan. Bedankt voor uw bezoek.

Groeten uit een 3/8 bewolkt Vlaanderen en 24,2°C,

Hi Bert,
Great action shot file mou!You can feel the action from the expression of his face. The pov gives power to the scenery and the black and white choice increasing the interesting.Fully enjoyable my friend I like it very much together with your fine note!
All the best for your weekend!
Thomas

Ah, the "Corvo Verdadeiro"! (True Crow ;))
Nice image in b&w, Bert! great job to capture him in action.
as for the ws, the avenue you see on the left hand side of the image joins the city centre to the south zone, therefore, it passes right in front of the airport.
btw, i passed in front of the airport last nite, the place looks rather sad; the block is closed, lights off but one can see the semi collapsed building, the air smells fire and burnt.
the energy is there. overwhelmingly sad.

Hej Bert,
Een geweldige actiefoto! Je hebt de concentratie op zijn gezicht -met uitgestoken tong- prachtig weten vast te leggen. Het zwartwit doet het goed hier. Mooi werk!
Fijn weekend!
Groeten,
Lars

A massive concrete (of course) :-) Full of mouvement with and excelent tilt in the composition that makes the photo more impressive. Great timing Bert and quite an interesting travel as well.
Miguel

Hi Bert,

Very nice shot! The movement is extraordinary and the face's expression very good. The gray scale is also beautiful and interesting according with the concrete! It's a shot full of life, energy... Great job!

Nice weekend,
Angel.

Well captured action shot. He looks to be a very talented skater indeed. You even captured the determined look of concentration on his face his tongue out to help. Well done

Hi Bert,
The dynamism of this shot is impressive, especially given the portrait format and the fellow shooting toward you. The sharpness level is just right and again your impressive cropping skills come to the fore. Thanks for the link to your shot commemorating the air disaster. Well conceived and executed, Bert. Cheers.
John

Hi Bert!
Interesting the inclination of image, and the option of B&W! I´d like of the aerial photo too!
I didn´t only understand the High saturation in exif if the photo is in B&W, could also have placed the option the colors in the WS!
Congratulations and Hug!

Hallo Bert,
Mooie aktiefoto, maar moet je niet in Ahoy zijn bij de WK skateboard? Heb je tweede helft augustus nog tijd voor een fotoshoot in Rotterdam met Lars en mij?
groet Rob

Hi Bert,

I would have already broken some bones in that move... Yeah, I always have a great deal of respect for people who manage to do such tricks on skates. I'm better on a racing bike ;-).
Nice picture in your hommage. Yeah, a sad event for sure. Just waiting to happen. But I can tell you, there are thousands of accidents waiting to happen in this world.. Not to sound pessimistic, but it's just reality.

Greetings, Dennis

Hi Bert, you have captured a great moment and a great action here!
il ike a lot the choice of BW and your compo!
bravo as usual!
ciao!
Valeria

Hi Bert,

A marvelous action shot. I am really impressed that the focus is one his concentrated face and not on his skate. Really good timing and I understand from the tilted floor that he was leaning even more that it looks like in your picture. This incicates that he had quite a speeed. A superb job!

Cheers,

Ulf

Hi Bert
A very good action shot! the timing is spot on, and i like the tight crop.
Very nice

hello, bert! a great, dynamic, environmental portrait. the composition is perfect in its diagonal orientation and tight crop. the skater's hands and body appear just "right" where they should be in the picture. nothing to add, nothing to subtract... well chosen B&W too, complementing the skaters intensity and taking away color distractions. but there's so much more... look at the skater's expression... "gliding" into the smoothness of his own motion, tongue bitten... a great shot!

my compliments and TFS
kristaps
