At the Library

On display here is the interior of the library of the Memorial of Latin America: "Biblioteca Victor Civita", which stores over a thousand motion picture films and documentaries, and contains archives of Erudite music, Brazilian Popular music and Hispanic American music. Not withstanding its date of building (1989) it can be placed as an example of the first phase of Brazilian modernism and was designed by Oscar Niemeyer.
Victor Civita (1907-1990) was a Brazilian publisher, businessman and philanthropist, born in New York of Italian parents and immigrated to São Paulo, in the late 1940’s. In 1950, he founded Editora Abril, one of the largest publishing groups in Latin America.

A capture of a different part of the Memorial by our dear friend Isabel is here.

An overview of the Memorial here.

This is for the time being the last Brazil pic. With my low speed of posting I’m distancing myself a bit too far from my more recent work. Thanks very much for your enthusiasm for this series!
A slide show of the full Brazil set on Flickr is here. A more traditional overview is here.

"At the library" is the first track of still fresh “039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours”’, the second album of punk-revivalists Green Day. Released on Lookout in 1990.

PCS3 tech: corrected for persecptive distortion, cropped, altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, enhanced edges, USM-ed, ran Noiseware, added a frame, resized and ran a gentle USM again.

Superb tech, and well presented shot of this facsinating interior.

Hi Bert, good morning.

Very interesting shot, with colors and textures very beautiful. The bakcground's light is stunning, and very useful for the shot. Great shot, thanks.

Goedemiddag Bert,

John.

I never thought to take a photo inside a libary, I'm chaging my idea concerning that.
Lovely lights and colors. Pretty composition Bert.
Thanks for share
Andre

Olá Bert!
Olhando por esse ângulo parece que a bibliotexa foi construida dentro de um túnel! Fruto das obras modernistas de Niemeyer! Boas cores e reflexos na imagem!
Parabéns e Abraço!

Hello Bert!
Amazing library! It looks like on the water!
Great structure of materials and great composition!
Best regards!

Hallo Bert,
Schitterend werk...echt mooi..!!!
Prettig weekend, Henk

Hello Bert!

Hi Bert

Very nice shot. I like the colors, the mood and the fine reflections on the floor. Nice work my friend.

Very nice picture Bert, soft colors and light, very pleasant to see. Nice shape created by the roof and the shelf on the righ, well seen !

Hi Bert
You have handled the light well in this interesting library. I like the colors from the stained glass reflecting in the shiny floor.
Regards
Harry

Yeah Bert, I know the place, been there too. Wonderful place to roam, and to take pictures of. The half round arch is beautiful with it's rough concrete, the window at the end, and the repetition of the bookcase generate a tremendous depth in the picture.
