Photographer’s Note

A rather less common viewpoint of this iconic location, Christo Redentor, standing majestically atop the Corcovado, can be reached by almost any possible mode of transport, including escalator for the final ascent! Most people take the rack railway, opened in 1894, or bus up the narrow road to this point but the standout views of Rio required a few more steps, until these escalators were fitted in 2002. The statue of Christ itself stands a staggering 38m tall, surveying all before it.
