Serra do Mar, view from Mogi-Bertioga road.

The 316.000 ha Serra do Mar State Park is part of the São Paulo City Green Belt Biosphere Reserve and the largest preservation complex of São Paulo state. Its extension reaches from the state border of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in the north until the Itariri district in the south, close to the border with Paraná (see Serra do Mar - map).

The Serra do Mar coastal mountain range with its magnificent escarpments and mountains up to 1.300 m is the result of tectonic movements from volcanic origin of Brazil´s geological past. Due to its difficult access, those escarpments beware the last remnants of Atlantic Rainforest for us and for future generations.
