Isabel Olinda Marques de Abreu - 4a. série "A" no. 16
Every single day we had to began classes in basic school writing as above.
29 years ago, my biggest dream was to grow old to study there, at "Conde José Vicente de Azevedo", whose interior was shown in this shot. There studied my cousins: my cousin Jaime taught me maths and how to dance cheek to cheek. Dora, my other cousin, taught me how to do a good make up and how to kill classes. :)
I´d never studied there. After finishing high school in a small school right at the end of my street, life took another rythm, another direction and lead me to study at Concordia.
Thus, there´s a piece of my heart buried under the snow in Montréal, but there´s another piece buried also in this school, where I´d never studied.
This one is for Curtis : girls definitely wear pink!

Oi sis, I still need to write something at 'this shot' as I liked it very much.
I love the running girl, Isabel, hurrying to get educated ;-), it's the perfect moment with her leg high up, so that we can see that even the bottom of her shoe is pink.
The pattern of the windows remind me of a different 'education' shot, your

I hope you can recover your hearth in Montreal pretty soon. Meanwhile, please continue to bring us such beautiful pieces of your life in Sao. Even without reading your note, I was already feeling the emotion you have for this place. This shot is done with sensitivitu and all the details reflect that : this little kid running, reflections, pov near the ground... a great one (like always...)

Very nicely composed. The reflection is nice. Some might say the horizontal line should be made perfectly horizontal, but I think this is more spontaneous.
Love your note.

Oi Isabel, what a great, personal and evocative one. Very strong symbolism and a marvelous integration with your sensitive note here.... The little girl running over the wet square, perpendicular to the people going about their business, the reflection, the motion blur, the graphical mood....
Thanx for sharing this one!
Have a great weekend,
Bert

Seeing a new photo from Isabel reminds me of going to a concert by that Free Jazz Genius Ornette Coleman: once it was over all other music sounded drab, predictible and ordinary...
The color, the geometry, the intelligence, the intersecting lines of desire and hope across this shot are...heartbreakingly beautiful.
I feel humbled, and I'm only talking about your picture.
Then I read your note and you bring in a host of people who taught you this or that, in this same place, and our eyes go back to that place with your words ringing...in or ears.
A samba for intelligent folks.
I salute you, my dear friend.
Love,
Francis

This photo really touches the heart, Isabel. It brings back memories of childhood and primary school. I was thinking why it is so strong. I guess it's a combination of the big space (things always look bigger when you are still small), the running girl and the low point of view. It's a very good and personal shot, and your note makes it even more touching. Thanks!

Lovely note and sweet photo Isabel. I'm honored that you offer it for me. The girl running toward the background, hair flying, reflection in the wet ground really makes this image though the wedges of color and bold lines of the window add much to it as well. The running girl echoes your very tender note, her urgency at reaching this place mirrors your wish from long ago. No doubt life is bittersweet, or as I often put it "life breaks our heart." Disappointment is impossible to avoid of course as circumstances unfold and even the best plans must be set aside. I was going to attend a Concordia College myself, though this one is in northern Minnesota. It has a famous college chorus that regularly travels around the world to perform. I auditioned and was one of two freshmen offered a place in the chorus but I simply wasn't ready to move away from friends and family at age 17. I attended for two months and then returned home. I've no idea how my life would have changed had I been mature enough to take advantage of what was being offered to me.
"We are such stuff
As dreams are made on and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep..."
Shakespeare understood. Thanks for this lovely image.

I love the action here Isabel - the freedom of her flying air and the unbound spirit of childhood/teenage years - and then in the background going both ways the more serious linear tracks of the adults on their way somewhere to something - always on the way somewhere to something to become - rarely just being - at last in this mode and type of environment - and yes we are on the outside and we may want to get in - yet on the inside how often do we yearn to get out?

Hello Isabel,
I love this photo. The little-girl running care-free in the puddles of water in contrast with the adults who are walking in an orderly manner. Your choice of cropping and angle of perspective highlight this theme perfectly! This photo prompted me to look at more of your work - refreshing style. Perhaps this girl in the photo, with her unique style/personality, is not unlike you?

Isabel,
O visual está muito bom, com toda essa gente que parece preocupada no dia-a-dia. O que mais mechama a atenção e como cada um deles está olhando para um lugar diferente.

Paulo
