Photographer’s Note

We arrived the small city of Domingos Martins- which looks like a run-down German mountain village - at lunch time, the sun was high, and the lighting conditions weren't good. Tired, I lay down in front the the main church... when I saw this hallo.Kidding, did this shot, but the tower was upside down in the original ...
According Webster´s, a halo is "a circle of light appearing to surround the sun or moon and resulting from refraction or reflection of light by ice particles in the atmosphere". It indicates that a cold air mass is coming... and in fact, weather conditions changed after one hour. So... no more shots about the city... I intend to go back next year.

"The Lutheran-Confessional Evangelical Church in the town square ("Praça" Arthur Gerhardt-Square) was founded on the 20 May 1866 and is considered the first evangelical church in Brazil to have a bell tower, as at that time only Catholic churches were permitted to build bell towers."

No PS but rotating.

We (Felipe and I)are doing a theme, so that you can see our pictures all together. In fact, Felipe also did a shot of this halo , after me... but he didn't lie down..hehe.

Nunca tinha ouvido falar do "halo". Eu acho k devias ter mantido a imagem do jeito k tirastes a foto. Foi de cabeça, nao foi? hehehe.

O efeito de luz esta muito bem conseguido. Muito interessante, sim senhor....

Impresionante fotografia, un interesante halo como el de un santo alrededor de la iglesia.
El halo alrededor del sol puede ser causado tambien por un grado de humedad alta, he observado que cuando esto aparece significa que en las proximas 24 horas puede llover.

Hi Carmem, this is quite an extraordinary view that you're showing us! Of course, the halo is very impressive and beautiful, but I also like the way you are using the silhouette of the church to hide the sun. I'm glad that the cross on top is still visible, it helps the viewer identifying the building. Would have been even better if the cross were a bit larger. Thanks for sharing this 'product' of nature and physics!

the light here is simply magnificent. Nice simple composition for sure but the halo effect around the church is a fantastic.

This is a very fine capture of this interesting phenomenon, Carmem! I kind of like it upside down, too, as originally taken. If you do Photoshop, it might be fun to run a saturation brush over the rainbow to boost its colors even further (I'm a bit colorblind, so I like colors to shout at me!). Nice work!

Carmem,

This has to be ne of my favorite shots for several reasons.
The first being it relates to God (a halo around the cross).
You lie down for a rest and got an excellent photo as a result.
Second I love silouhettes.
My compliments to you and to God for putting it there for you.
Excellent photo.

A foto está excelente. Gosto do contraste da silhueta da igreja contra o azul do céu. O halo ao redor da igreja dá-lhe um aspecto surreal. Acho que fizestes bem em rodar a foto. Parabéns

Alô Carmem,de fato voce não é tão somente uma fotografa mas uma verdadeira artista de mão cheia, que consegue perceber e bem registrar um momento ou um detalhe que para outros passaria despercebido. Ótima composiçao a habitual nitidez!
