Photographer’s Note
TrekEarth is about the World and its beauties. This picture was slightly motion blured, however shows a unique feature of the Nature - the birth of the Amazon river. Left is Rio Solimoes, right is Rio Negro, both rivers merge at Manaus to create for the next 1600 km the mighty Amazon river. The altitute of the confluence is only 16m, which means that the Amazon drops only by 1 m per each 100 km. The two rivers flow by each other for the next 20 km and first then they mix their waters to create just one river - the Amazon.

It's very rare time for the nature. Thanks for sharing because I didnot know this nature occurence and from here I would never see this scene. We should really respect to the nature. I like the composition by the way.

Quando eu olhei a foto em tamanho menor, achei que a parte esquerda fosse areia de uma praia. É um belo momento da natureza e você conseguiu capturar muito bem.

Hello Michael!
Yes, I agree with you! Although it hasn't the best technical quality (a bit blurred!), it fits perfectly the objective of TE and for this reason is a very good photograph! I know the phenomenom since my childhood but I have never seen it personally, I've never been to the Amazon Region in Brazil! Therefore it's always good to see it in pictures like this one of yours! I think I have never seen that much difference in the kinds of waters of the two rivers that meet in this point! Very nice! Very good! Thank you for sharing it with all of us!
Warmest regards and Happy 2009!
Neyvan
