Photographer's Note

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi, is a church in the city of Ouro Preto built in rococo style, which is a later step in the evolution of the baroque.
It was classified in 2009 as one of the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Origin.
Its construction began in 1766, with architectural design, the risk cover and ornamental elements as pulpits, altarpiece, toilet and ceiling of the chancel of the mining Antônio Francisco Lisboa, Aleijadinho, and paintings by Manuel da Costa Ataide. Both artists were born respectively in Vila Rica (now Ouro Preto), and Vila do Carmo (Mariana today) are considered the two most important names in Brazilian colonial art.
