Photographer's Note

Here a outrside photo of the Cathedral of Petropolis. Since the curch is to big, was difficult take closer views. So I took this photo more far way so we can see all the façade. The next photos are inside the church.

Its construction began in 1884, with the project of the engeneer and architect Francisco Caminhoá. The project having Gothic style inspired especially in ancient cathedrals of northern France.

Construction of the cathedral did not stop after the Proclamation of the Republic and continued until 1901, when the works have entered a period of downtime.
The second phase of construction began in 1918 and finally on November 29, 1925, the cathedral is opened. The cathedral, however, was not finished, construction of the main facade and tower were completed only in 1969.
