Tiradentes Palace, a photo from Minas Gerais, Southeast

Photographer's Note

The Tiradentes Palace, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, is considered one of the most daring works of the architect in 70 years of career. The building with four floors, is the largest building suspended in the world with a span of 147 meters long and 26 wide. The engineer Jose Carlos Sussekind, responsible for the calculations of the building, highlights the uniqueness of the project. "He has no support. It is a unique building because it has four floors, is glass and concrete. Out of the country do not have references of similar projects, because the architects have not dared to do so. The references we have are projects Oscar Niemeyer's own studies in Brazil, as the building of the Attorney General's Office in Brasilia, which has a span of 40 meters, and the National Museum in Brasilia, with a dome 80 meters. And in Sao Paulo have the MASP, designed by Lina Bo Bardi, with a span of 80 meters".

The building was constructed over 30 temporary metal pillars, which allowed the completion of the work in the natural order of the first floor to the roof. With the withdrawal of the pillars, the building is now fully supported by 30 struts, formed by three sets of 12 steel cables. The cables are locked into 15 concrete beams 20 meters long and 3.4 meters in height, located at the top, and supported by two large gantry parallel reinforced concrete. According to the engineer João Eduardo Dutra, coordinator of the work of Government House, the structure of the building was designed to withstand a load of up to 34.000 tons.

Before the stage of completion of the building, began the process of gradual transfer of the cargo floor - even then applied the pillars provisional - to the steel cables, supported by porticos and roof of the building, which left the building down. The migration process loads lasted 30 days and was closely monitored by engineers and technicians responsible. Against the actions of wind, the stability of the concrete block down is guaranteed with the support of the gateways of access that link with the elevator tower and a helipad.

Recently I have noticed a loss of quality in my photos posted in TE, especially in the saturation and sharpness. For comparisons, see this same picture posted here on TE in Photopholia (Photofolia). The two photos are of the same file, and the original is identical fo the Photofolia post, but here in TE is evident loss of quality, especially the saturation on the grass. Has anyone noticed this?

A Cidade Administrativa ficou muito bonita, apesar de toda a corrupção envolvida em sua construção. Uma bela foto noturna do novo Palácio, e que bom que as greves não vão passar mais pela minha rua! E motivo pra greve, principalmente dos servidores públicos do Estado, é o que não tem faltado aqui em Minas...

Que foto espetacular! O POV parece ter dado mais imponência ao edifício.
Estou me sentindo cada vez mais "expatriada" - esta é uma Belo Horizonte que não conheço e com a qual não tenho e, provavelmente, nunca mais terei nenhuma intimidade... é como se estivesse escapando por entre meus dedos :-(

Even if I don't like modern architecture I must admit that this is an outstanding and well done photo. The shape and colour of this building stands out well against the blue sky and contrasts with the green lawn. Excellent light management and good depth given by the almost diagonal position. A very neat photo, well framed and with a strong visive impact.

Olá Lucas,

magnífica captura. Parece até que você tirou essa de algum filme futurista. A opção pelo "blue hour" ajudou a dramatizar ainda mais a cena. Bom trabalho em longa exposição, ótimo enquadramento e perspectiva. Com relação à pequena diferença entre a publicada no Photofolia e essa, imagino que seja porque lá o site acaba alterando a nitidez da imagem e aqui não, fica por sua conta. Às vezes vejo que na versão de 800 pixels, dependendo da nitidez que se aplica, as cores podem ser alteradas, fiz alguns experimentos e cheguei a essa conclusão...mas pode ser que eu esteja falando bobagem em relação a esse problema encontrado por você.

Acho que é a primeira vez que vejo este extraordinário edifício.
A foto está muito apelativa (gosto desta mistura de tons azul, branco e verde).
Li com interesse a discussão com o Carlos (belido).
Contudo, neste caso não noto muita diferença, ou não noto nenhuma. Fiz até um WS com as duas imagens (copiadas por "Print Screen"). Mas não sei se a parte escolhida será a melhor para o caso. Uma coisa que eu fiz também foi pôr fundos diferentes. Acho que o fundo dá uma sensação diferente na visualização, podendo dar uma certa ilusão. Não sei.

Such futuristic architecture we normally see from Brasilia but I discover here that also in BH you have such buildings, good comprehensive view at blue hour mastering very strong lighting at places. The approach way on the left seems to have good potential for closer shots, just an idea...

WOW! A wonderful nocturnal shot of this amazing architecture in beautiful light management and very good exposure. Nice perspective shot and well placed in frame. You have really been quite decisive in selecting the time of the blue hours. Great DOF and I really liked the way sky is darken moving away from horizon. Parabéns, a foto ficou impressionante, com uma luminosidade fantástica. O gramado ficou uma maravilha. Estou trabalhando por lá esses dias e ainda não tive essa visão com tanta beleza. Quanto ao arquiteto, pena que ele parou de trabalhar há uns 50 anos, desde quando não faz nada de novo, apenas pega o velho e manda mudar umas coisinhas. Bem, o prédio é bonito, mas parece da década de 60 ou 70. Realmente nosso EX-governador (já foi tarde) perpetuou sua imagem, para que esse túmulo faraônico guarde para sempre o seu defunto político. Parabéns pelo trabalho, você foi o único mestre ainda realmente vivo a participar dessa foto.

Olá Lucas, confesso que não vejo diminuição de qualidade nas tuas fotos e também não encontro diferenças entre esta e a do photofolia. Mas também deixei de reparar em detalhes tão minunciosos já há algum tempo...Acho que esta foto está fabulosa e faz justiça ao mestre Niemeyer. Bom ângulo para mostrar as linhas puras da arquitectura numa foto muito limpa e precisa. Parabéns.

A splendid night time capture of this most interesting building, the like of which I have never seen before. The point of view is well chosen to show it off the amazing architecture to good effect. The exposure is very well managed given all that white.

I have noted that pictures are rather better reproduced in photfalia than TE, they seem to have more pizazz somehow. I don't know what this is a due to a recent deterioration in TE quality or whether that has always been the case.
