Photographer’s Note

In a pause of my series about Alta Vila, I present here the orelhão (big ear), kind of acoustic shell which contains a public telephone inside. They are everywhere in the urban Brazilian landscape.

This post comes in chain reaction following the post of Francisco (xuaxo) that was inspired by the Marie-Louise (maloutim) post.

"Oi" written on the big ear means Hello, and is also the name of an important company of cellular and fixed telephony in Brazil.

In this image, we also can see a cell phone user, which is more and more universal.
But the big ear hasn't lost its place... not yet.
