ESTÁTUA EM HOMENAGEM A CARLOS GOMES - PRAÇA BENTO QUIRINO DA SILVA - CENTRO DA CIDADE DE CAMPINAS - FEIÚRA URBANA!
STATUE IN TRIBUTE TO CARLOS GOMES - DOWNTOWN CAMPINAS - URBAN UGLINESS!
After a break because of all the end of the year's celebrations, first day back to work! I decided to take my camera with me, because the sun is going away later (as we are in summertime) and I could take some pictures while going back home! And so I did.
Unfortunately, downtown Campinas is getting uglier and uglier because of visual pollution, decaying buildings etc., as a result, for example, of bad administrations, among other reasons!
CAMPINAS is a big city, 96km northwest of the city of SÃO PAULO and part of one of the largest metropolitan areas in the state of São Paulo and in Brazil. It had 1,088,611 estimated inhabitants in 2011, being the third most populated city in the State of São Paulo and the fourteenth most populated city in Brazil.
In this picture, focus on the statue in tribute to ANTÔNIO CARLOS GOMES (July 11th, 1836 — September 16th, 1896) who was the first New World composer whose work was accepted by Europe. The only non-European who was successful as an opera composer in Italy, during the "golden age of opera," contemporary to Verdi and Puccini. He was born in Campinas, Brazil. His most famous opera is called "O GUARANI"/"THE GUARANI"! And just like my friend John said, even that statue is in need of a better care! A lack of respect to important people born in the city!

Hello Neyvan,
A very interesting note about this Brazilian composer! And a fine photograph too!
But, as you say, the city does look a bit "run down" with evidence of decay in the buildings and some graffiti too. Even Gomes looks as though he could do with a wash!
Good composition, fine lighting, perfect exposure and good details and sharpness.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Have a Wonderful 2013!

Hello Neyvan,
Good graphism of the darker statue against the lighter bg. Excellent sharpness & plenty of breathing space almost right around. The subdued pastel colors work well here. I like the angled walls of the bg apartment blocks too. Tfs!

Hello Ney,
An interesting note to accompany this well presented image. The dark tones of the statue sit well against the yellow apartment block in the framing, whilst the palm fronds provide a pleasant contrasting frame. Good rendering of the detail on the statue.

Hi Ney
an evocative shot this and one that does have a strong and powerful message to accompany your notes. This beautiful statue does look out of place here and yet the flat urban backdrop does make it all the more outstanding. A well chosen POV to emphasise the motive of this original image.
Have a great week - Brian.

Hello Neyvan.
An interesting note introduces us about the city and the life of this composer, a native of the same.
Great composition with the sculpture in the foreground, and a background of windows, lending a cosmopolitan flair to the set, I like the sculpture in a very characteristic of his work.
Good sharpness, brightness and color.
Well done.
Have a nice day.
Best regards.
Luis.

Hi Neyvan,
Excellent POV of this famous statue of Antonio Carlos Gomez... I found your notes so interesting & it is always terribly sad when you see areas of your country or other countries for that matter - slowly decaying...
Thank you for sharing.
Kindest regards,
Dawn.
