This sculpture made in rock is located in the Castro Maya Museum in a property that was bought by the Castro Maya Family in 1913.
Besides the Museum have a website with many information, I didn't found any information about the ugly face that could scare children.

well this is scary, looks like a face from the Mummy movie:) Black and white adds to the feel. I wouldn't want it on the walls of my property,lol. Nice take.

so, i was mistaken that spooky gargoyles belonged to the european gothic culture. mayans also had them! the main thing to be curious is, why all the ancient people designed those gargoyles as horrible faces that could intrude your nightmares. composition is clean with only necessary elements, b&w was a good choice to emphasize the stone textures.
