THE FREE MASONARY
The freemasonry has begun during the Middle Age in Europe, when the almighty Catholic Church forbade meeting of people who could question or put in risk its domain. Then, in order to escape from catholic inquisitor, groups of the beginning medium class (intellectuals, artisans and traders) formed an kind of secret society, the freemasonry, which aimed the search of truth through reason and science, and not only through faith.
This association has been based on the masons' organizations on the event of construction of the, "Templo de Salomão", in the current Israel state, where worked 153.000 workmen. In order to organize an undertaking of this importance, in a time where the paper was not used yet, it was created a simple and functional methodology: for purpose of wages and obedience, the masons were divided into three classes: learner, fellow and master (despite freemasonry divides its members in 33 classes, the first three classes are named of learner, fellow and master).
Each class had a set of codes and secret signals so that they could recognize among themselves. In order to avoid tumults or fights, there were often meetings where the masters make them aware of the importance of mutual respect, and mutual help to make an enterprising reaches the end. So, it comes the relationship with masons and labor men and the use of some symbols related to this professional activity (mason in French means laborman).
Persecuted in Europe, they arrive in Brazil in the century XVIII, during the Cycle of Gold. Most of them, establish themselves in Paraty, that in that time was the intermediary place between the capital and the mines. In 1833, they founded in the city, the freemasonry Lodge "Union and Beauty" (at the corner of ""Rua do Comércio" with "Rua da Cadeia") and most influence in the city architecture. The foundation year, coincidence or not, is a number of highest importance for Freemasonry that, according to the orthodox interpretation of Bible, it would be the period of Jesus life in years. Originated form this number, the triangle is the freemasonry symbol by excellence.
The Freemasonry influence can be observed in several details of the city architecture. The housed from the historic center which stay in corners have three cornerstones forming an imaginary triangle. The historic center of Paraty was built in 33 blocks. The houses plant were made with the scale 1:33;33. And if in Europe the freemasonry symbols had to be discrete due to often persecutions, the same did not occur here in Paraty; the two-storey houses whose owners were freemasons had bands full of geometric symbols from the freemasonry symbols.

Adorei as cores do prédio.
