"Olha que coisa mais linda, mais cheia de graça...
O seu balançado é mais que um poema
É a coisa mais linda que eu já vi passar..."

from Garota de Ipanema's Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim song.

Here a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro city looked from Niteroi neibor city.

a little of history
Rio de Janeiro city was founded on 1 March of 1565 by Estacio de Sá. The name of the city was a mistake, because when the portugues arrived here they think that Guanabara bay was a river (rio) mouth and because of the January month they put the Rio de Janeiro Name.

In 1807 the Portugal Real Family came to Rio de Janeiro when their contry was invaded by Napoleon troops. It was Brazil capital from 1882 to 1960.

Both Republic (1889) and Abolition of Slavery (1888) occured here. Many others revolutions occured in the city during it history.

a little of geography
Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city of Brazil and South America, behind São Paulo, and the second largest metropolitan area in South America, behind São Paulo. The city has 1,182 square kilometres with a population of 7.787.098 (2008).

Rio has a tropical climate. The temperature occasionally reaches over 40°C (104°F) in inland areas of the city, and extreme maximum temperatures above 30°C (86°F) can happen every month. The average annual temperature is 23°C (73.5°F).
