Forte São Mateus em Cabo Frio - Estado do Rio de Janeiro
Construído pelos portugueses entre 1616 e 1620 com o objetivo de defender a costa contra franceses, ingleses e holandeses que vinham em busca da imensa quantidade de pau-brasil que havia na região. Os canhões utilizados nas batalhas ainda se encontram voltados para o mar, como se estivessem prontos para defender o município de novos ataques.

A casa onde os soldados viviam serve hoje como um espaço para artesãos mostrarem seus trabalhos. Do forte, se tem uma completa vista de toda a extensão da Praia do Forte até Arraial do Cabo.

Fort St. Matthew in Cabo Frio - State of Rio de Janeiro

Built by the Portuguese between 1616 and 1620 in order to defend the coast against French, British and Dutch who came in search of the immense amount of Brazil wood that was in the area. The cannons used in battle are still facing the sea, as if ready to defend the city from further attacks.

The house where the soldiers lived today serves as a space for artisans to showcase their work. From the Fort you have a complete view of the entire length of Praia do Forte until Arraial Cape.
