Photographer’s Note

This is the main building of Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), in Minas Gerais. It is called the Arthur Bernardes building, and today host most administrative departments of the University. Arthur Bernardes, a former Brazilian President, created UFV in 1922. At the beginning it was only the courses of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine, but today, there are 38 undergraduate and 30 graduate programs, with more than 11,000 students. I got my BS and Master degree there.

hi ricardo,
excellent shot. very good lighting and colours. was there a breeze blowing when you took the shot? the palm leaves have are slightly out of focus. tfs.

Olá Ricardo,

As a long time academic (a professor of physics), I am always interested in academic institutions, and in your short note you offer so much information about the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). I see from your Intro page that you are an agronomist. my impression in seeing this image this photograph is the impressive heights of these palm trees. They must be no more than 86 years old — rich nutrient soil, and skillful agronomists. The one thing I would fear is, if they produce coconuts, being conked by one dropping from those heights.

Quite a difference in architecture style...old vs new. Angle of the shot is well chosen to show us the dual perspective. Nice good depth here & good colours & light. Well done!

A Universidade Federal de Vicoça é reconhecida em todo o país como um ótimo centro de estudo e pesquisa a nível superior! Não a conheço, mas por sua bela foto, imagino-a, em seus prédios, tão tradicional como é sua reputação!

Hi Ricardo,

The palm trees are a natural frame to the building. The three quarter view showing two sides of the building is a god addition to the composition. The light brings out the best of the colors. have a nice day.
