Mariana é um município brasileiro do estado de Minas Gerais. Sua população estimada em 2010 era de 54.179 habitantes. Foi a primeira vila, cidade e capital do estado de Minas Gerais. Foi no século XVII uma das maiores cidades produtora de ouro para a coroa Portuguesa. Vale lembrar que Mariana tornou-se a primeira capital de Minas Gerais por participar de uma disputa onde a Vila que arrecadasse maior quantidade de ouro seria elevada a Cidade sendo a capital da então Capitania de Minas Gerais.

À direita está a igreja da Ordem Terceira de São Francisco de Assis, 1762. À esquerda está a igreja N.Sra do Carmo, 1784 e ao centro do Largo de São Francisco está o pelourinho, onde eram açoitados os escravos.
Suas ruas são muito movimentadas com muitos estudantes, turistas e carros.

Mariana is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Its population in 2010 was 54,179 inhabitants. It was the first village, town and capital of the state of Minas Gerais. In the seventeenth century was one of the largest gold producing cities to the Portuguese crown. Remember that Marian became the first capital of Minas Gerais to participate in a contest where the village that collected largest amount of gold would be elevated to City being the capital of then Captaincy of Minas Gerais.
On the right is the Church of the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi, 1762. On the left is the church Our Lady of Carmo, 1784 and the center of the Largo de São Francisco is the stone pillory where slaves were whipped.
Its streets are very busy with many students, tourists and cars.
