Photographer's Note

The south of my province Minas Gerais is a great producer of coffe and milk in Brazil. In my grandparents cottage is not different. The milk cows was my grandfather passion, at the end of his life when his legs didin't have more force to go up the hills and check his animals he would observe them from the 'varanda's house with a binocular.
The milking is an early affair, at 6:oo the 2 employess asemble the cows and start the job. It's all done manually, once smal farms with samll production cannot afford the machines. Some may find the method archaic and unhealth, but as child we always went up the hill to drink the fresh warm milk taken at the time. Everyday during the school holidays, 6 children half-sleep would climb the hills in their pgs with colorfull glasses on their hands, suggar in the botton, to have the fresh milk. None of us was ever sick...

The milk produced in the cottage, betwen 20 to 30 littler are them put in the cans and transported to the pick-up points were the cooperative truck pass to pick them up. Milk is a very expensive activity, the cottage do not pay itself, my grandfather just kept them for passion, as a hobbie as he had to put money to keep the activity running.

On the WS a close-up on the milking activity.
