There are many photographic workflows: the ninja style, getting around people stealthly, so one can catch people in a natural fashion; the PR style, talking and talking so as to get people confortable before asking to take their snapshot; the uncaring, won’t have any scruple of shooting peoples’ portraits in their faces; the automatic shooting style, getting every move of everything in a shot and figuring it out later; the ultra-self-conscious style, thinking of every possible meaning of every possible parameter until you press the shutter (or don’t...); the contemplative landscapist, waiting for the right light or the right atmospheric conditions, etc. I think nobody is entirely in one category, but will adapt according to circumstances and objectives.
When I made this shot, I wasn’t worried about anything but adjusting tripod, changing filters, composing seascape shots. I then realized there was this absorbed fisherman, just enjoying the sunny day after many rainy ones. In a way, just as me, he was waiting hours for the perfect catch. Of course I had to change to the more stealthy mode, with another lens, and capture the moment, if only to remember. Hope you like it.
