Photographer’s Note

Here we can see the cathedral of Rio Grande city, it is the first church of the city and the oldest one that is working in whole state of Rio Grande do Sul yet. The church was build in baroque colonial style in 1755. How I told you before, Rio Grande was founded in 1737 by Portuguese empire and it was located in a strategical point, taking control of a wide area of seashore that goes from Laguna, around 500 kilometers at north, to Montevideo, around 500 kilometers at south. At same time the big rivers that flows from countryside of Rio Grande do Sul state goes to Patos lake, while Rio Grande was the main door to access that areas by boat from the sea. Nowadays Rio Grande is one of the biggest Brazilian ports.
The palm tree we can see here is from Austrália and there are some plantations of it in Brazil, nowadays is is used to produce the typical "heart of palm", being the second best kind of this food after Brazilian juçara-palm-tree.

Esta é a velha catedral de Rio Grande, a igreja mais antiga ainda em funcionamento em todo o estado do Rio Grande do Sul. A igreja foi erguida em 1755 em estilo barroco colonial. Como já disse antes a cidade foi fundada pelo império português em 1737, tomando controle de uma vasta área de litoral que ia a cerca de 500 km ao norte, até Laguna, e cerca de 500 km ao sul, até Montevidéo. Ao mesmo tempo a posse da cidade garantia o acesso aos grandes rios que vem do interior do estado e que desembocam na lagoa, sendo Rio Grande a porta de entrada para embarcações vindas do oceano. Atualmente Rio Grande é um dos maiores portos do Brasil.
A palmeira vista aqui é um exemplar australiano de palmeira real, cujo cerne produz o segundo melhor palmito depois do nosso juçara; hoje em dia existem plantações desta palmeira para extração de palmito.

Bom dia Jorge!
Beleza de foto... com pouca luz, mas muito bem controlada, destacando-se o que deve se destacado! ponto de vista e composição muito bem escolhidos! A igreja simples ficou muito bem retratada aqui e o burburinho das pessoas ao redor não passou despercebido e acrescentou vida à imagem!

What a contrast the old cathedral against the modern buildings to the right.
Palmtrees and tourists are absolutely presently.
Lovely soft colours, very fine for look at. Sharpness and clarity are superb.

A typische church very well presented with a framing well selected. The peoples give an interetsing element of life to the image. Contrast well collected too and plesant play of shade.

Hi Jorge,
you give me a nice idea of this beautiful church that seems to be sandwiched between some high houses. The shadows are creating nice contrasts. I also like the moody light although the FG is a little bit too dark from my point of view. But it is nevertheless a very interesting image. TFS!

Nice capture of this architecture style of 1737 that has impressive tower and roof.

Although it looks small, the church sits in the city surrounded by developments and should be interesting place for people to pop in. Nice work.

What a large old church till your pov is not enough to frame it entire feature, lively shoot with including street life too, good contrast of color between bright and shades area, thanks for sharing a historical church.

Aqui aonde eu vivo há muitas palmeira dessas. São das mais bonitas para ter num jardim.
Gosto muito da foto com aquela bonita luz lateral a alongar as sombras. Só não gosot é daquele carro mas por vezes não há nada a fazer!

Outra bonitas foto de igreja. Gosto desse tipo de enquadramento, o movimento da rua e o prédio a direita deram um bom balanço a foto.
A igreja me parece bem conservada e isso é bom de se ver.

Olá Jorge, a luz/sombras na fachada é o melhor desta foto. O céu também está bonito e só o prédio que se vê por detrás da palmeira é que 'estraga' um pouco a vista. Curioso teres descentrado a igreja mas imagino que terás as tuas razões.

Pois é, estou a mudar-me para Granada, cidade. Já tinhamos esta ideia há vários anos e finalmente a minha mulher conseguiu um contrato para os próximos 3 anos. Estivemos a procurar casa esta semana e apesar de ainda não termos encontrado o que queremos já temos um apartamento provisório que é simpático. Estamos agora em Lisboa a tratar dos últimos preparativos e dentro de alguns dias sairemos definitivamente de Portugal. Até ter internet lá, irei estar ausente por aqui.
