Ghost Dog, a photo from Parana, South

Photographer's Note

On an empty road with the fog dominating the scene. Nothing around but the sound of the birds and the smell of the fresh trees. Suddenly, a ghost appears. An old dog that was runned over by a car many years ago and it has not still realized the other side is waiting for it...poor soul!

Back to reality, I shot this in a foggy and wet day on Estrada da Graciosa. That dog was a bit scary, looking at me and trying to figure out what I was about to do. "Do not worry, sweet dog. I just want to shoot the scenery and you don't bother me at all", I thought.

Originated from a trail used by Indians of the coast at the time of collection of pine rose to the plateau. This road was used by about 200 years before the start of its construction, not only by Indians but also by Jesuits and by the early settlers of the state, in the 17th century.
Later, the same road was used by the cycle of Yerba Mate in Parana.

The Estrada da Graciosa is a particular geographical loveliest of Parana, Curitiba league for the first plateau to the shores of Paraná, through the Serra do Mar, in the Atlantic. Distant 37 km from Curitiba, out of the sea level, zero to 1050m.

sensacional essa foto mesmo, os tons dourados na bneblina ficaram ótimos, e o cachorro enriqueceu ainda mais a composição. Essa com certeza é uma das estradas mais bonita que já percorri até hoje. Belo trabalho.

When we follow the yellow double line we come very depth in the fog, splendid realisation.
A pity for the dog, people are sometimes very bad, I love animals generally.

Isto está espectacular, Carlos. Adoro as linhas amarelas a levar-nos por aí fora como se eu estivesse a ser levado numa viagem por um parque de diversões...tipo casa do terror ou algo parecido. A atmosfera está irreal e o cão é o grande extra que nos conta uma história e nos põe a imaginação a funcionar a mil. O teu tratamento de imagem favoreceu todo este surrealismo, as texturas da estrada parecem saltar do asfalto. Parabéns.

Bella la doppia linea continua che divide le due carreggiate della strada.
Il suo senso curvo, dà movimento alla scena e crea contrasto cromatico con l'asfalto.

Il cane appena visibile, sembra trovarsi in un punto pericoloso per la sua incolumità.

hi Carlos,
the moment I saw the title, I had to "finish" it in my mind - Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. remember this movie by Jarmusch? it's one of my all time favourites, especially the scenes of conversations between the Whitaker's character and Haitian ice cream salesman who speaks only French :)
I actually think the photo has the same dark-ish mood as the movie, the carefull composition reminds me of Japanese paintings, where just a few lines create an engaging story. the ligh is pure magic, no question about that, and the dog should get a reward for being such a good actor :) great shot, my compliments.

When I saw the title, it reminded me that movie with F.Whitaker...it actually fits perfectly the scene!
I like how you've framed it with the double yellow line more to the left side with the dog and the thick fog which created a kind of mysterious atmosphere.

Hola Carlos, this is an eerie shot, very well-taken and appropriately titled. The mist is amazing and you've captured it so superbly. The curves of the road are beautiful to the eye and add to the mystery by leading the eye off to infinity. I hope the dog did not remain on the road, he does not seem very safe. P.S. A celmaleite é minha mãe e o Alexandre (gervaso) é meu irmão, e o Lucas (lucasgalodoido) é amigo dele, estamos em família aqui. Quanto ao seu acidente, espero não ter sido nada grave. Também comecei as férias, em dezembro, batendo o carro, mas sem ninguém se machucar. Fiquei um dia em João Monlevade, o que rendeu umas fotos.

Looks like I missed one hell of a shot here!

This is a very atmospheric shot with the lit up mist, the swerving double yellow line, the arrows (indicating danger) and that dog really the finishing touch, standing there like an omen. Great square format too!
