Photographer's Note
Northern-Paraná is known because its very fertile volcanic soil. It was covered with a big jungle during thousand years and between 1930 and 1970 the forest was removed and the soil begun to produce many coffee, cereals and pasture. A big erosive process almost spoiled this treasure and after 1980 the soil became more protected from the rain, sun and wind with new technics.
When the rain removes part of this soil we can see a dark amount of mineral elements that are mixed with it, I ever thought it was iron, but I guess it can be other mineral.
This kind of soil is named "Terra Roxa" (violet soil)in my region, there are two theories about the name: in Brazil the violet is considered the color of virility, fertility and power for men, other theory says when the Italian immigrants came to this area they named this soil like (Terra rossa), what means red soil in Italian.
This soil when humid glues in the feet and it is difficult to be removed, its strong color paint the landscape and white animals and clothes are painted in red by it easily.
