Photographer's Note

I found this old cow near of its dead calf. Many people think animals are like stones. In my opinion some of them have primitive feelings and the pain of a mother in front of its dead baby is real despite it can't cry. In the next image I will show one of the black vultures in a fence, they were waiting to eat the calf while she was trying to avoid this.

Encontrei esta vaca velha junto a seu bezerrinho morto.Muita gente imagina que animais são como pedras. Penso que muitos possuem sentimentos primitivos e a dor de uma mãe diante de seu filho morto é real, apesar dela não chorar. Amanhã pretendo postar uma foto de um dos urubus que estavam numa cerca próxima, esperando para devorar o bezerrinho enquanto sua mãe estava sempre por perto, tentando evitar que isso acontecesse.

Hi Jorge,

Very poignant image and text, life can be fragile no matter the species. I think this photo speaks volumes to the inner most emotions of man and animal, it would appears that there is certainly a maternal connection portrayed here regardless of any lack of expression, which of course cattle are unable to render. Well captured, thanks for sharing!

Hello Jorge,
As sad as it may be, that's life, and this kind of misfortune also happens sometimes to humans despite the modern means we have. This is common in nature, it's part of the natural selection process, and the body of this calf will feed other animals like these black vultures you mentioned in your note. This is just the principle of balance of nature. Good photo, anyway, which strengthens my choice of being a vegetarian !

I agree with you! You captured this sad scene wonderfully. The mother knows what happend, standing over the calf dead body. Wonderful quality of this photo. Great photo job. Perfect timing.

Indeed it is a very sad moment for the mother cow
I notice it is the same breed of less horn cows living in India and other asian countries.
The young male on the left looks like very strong!

Una foto triste, que refleja con mucho realismo el ciclo de la vida, esplendido como has captado a la vaca madre, con una expresion que parece denotar cierta tristeza, yo tambien pienso que los animales tienen algun tipo de sentimientos ante una situacion de este tipo, todas las demas vacas tambien parece estar como en alerta, por algo que presienten, aunque tambien puede ser por la presencia de los cuervos, que son el siguiente episodio de ese ciclo de la muerte y la vida.
Magnificamente realizada, con buena nitidez y luminosidad.

No habìa visto esta imagen en primer lugar. Pero, cuando la vì, fue colpita al corazòn.
Una foto dolorosa con una nota bien adaptada : Es la verdad, la vaca es muy afectada por la muerte de su ternero, y tu foto siguiente hace ese sentimiento aùn màs dramàtico. Imaginemos que esta situaciòn ocuriera a una madre humana :-((
