Photographer’s Note
After some hours in the car on the Brasilian countryside roads- if you haven't experienced it it's somewhat like riding a rollercoaster. I had one of the most breath-taking experiences in my entire life, something I've always dreamt about and will take with my in my heart- Namely a visit to the raw-wilderness of the Amazon forest.
I don't remember the name of this big tree but we saw another one of them that was more than twice it's size that sadly had traces of motorsaws.. Perhaps they realized what they where doing and couldnt find it in their heart to continue. There is still hope.
Ah, the name of the beautiful lady is Lua, which poeticly enough means "Moon" in portuguese.

Hello Eric,
I´m Brazilian and Rondonia State is such almost as a "unknown land" for me, so far it is from Recife, my hometown!
I´m glad to read your experience and I hope that you probably captured other flagrantes from there to be also posted for TrekEarth ...
The tree, could it be a Baobab? Maybe.
Kind regards, from Recife,
Nivaldo

Great catch Eric. I like the title, it really sums up the photo well. Good color and composition. Nice DOF also. The name of the tree is on the tip of my tongue but I just can't think of it. It's definitely not a Baobab tree though.
Great work.
John
