Photographer's Note

From the 1970s, the state attracted farmers from the center-south of the country, stimulated by colonization projects and the federal government's land reform and the availability of cheap and fertile land. The development of agriculture brought a series of environmental problems and land disputes. On the other hand, turned the area into a major agricultural frontiers of the country and one of the most prosperous and productive regions of northern Brazil. The state stands out in coffee production (largest producer in the North and 5th largest in Brazil), cacao (2nd largest producer in the North and 3rd largest in Brazil), beans (2nd largest producer in the North), corn (2nd largest producer in the North), soybeans (2nd largest producer in the North), rice (3rd largest producer in the North) and cassava (4th largest producer in the North). Even the grape, fruit uncommon in regions with high temperatures, is produced in Rondônia, more precisely in the southern state (production of 224 tonnes in 2007).
